Hi, I'm Michelle Gorden, a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Virginia and a Nationally Certified Counselor (NCC). I specialize in treating mood disorders, trauma, and PTSD. My background is diverse and supports my ability to help my clients reach their highest potential. I am a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW), a licensed professional counselor (LPC), a licensed marriage and family therapist (LMFT) and a certified substance abuse counselor (CSAC). I earned an MA in Social Work, MA in Correctional Counseling and a Ph.D. in Urban Services/Counseling. My counseling theories most often practiced include solution-focused, cognitive behavioral therapy, reality therapy, family systems, and client-centered. However, techniques used are drawn from different counseling perspectives in order to meet the clients' individual needs and strengths. I have been a clinical psychologist since 1999,primarily working in the areas of PTSD, mood disorders, family conflict, crisis intervention, conduct disorders in children and adolescents, and addiction. In addition, I have specialized training in the treatment of PTSD in a wide range of populations. Specifically, I have been trained in and provided Cognitive Processing Therapy and Prolonged Exposure, both evidenced based treatments for PTSD.

I am currently an intern working towards obtaining my LPC license. I am currently working at PIL Professional counseling under a supervisor that has many different certifications. Rhiannon Alley is a Licensed Professional Counselor from the Richmond area, she completed her undergraduate degree at Virginia Tech and obtained her Master’s in Marriage and Family Counseling at The College of William and Mary. Rhiannon has worked with families, couples, youth, and adults in multiple settings; she became a Certified Sex Offender Treatment Provider while working with at-risk youth in residential treatment centers. Rhiannon is driven to assist clients overcome and manage traumatic experiences, depression, anxiety, aggression, and mood disturbances.

I have worked in the mental health field since 2011 and is a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist and a Certified Substance Abuse Counselor in Virginia. My expertise is in helping those dealing with addictive disorders find a path of healing. I have worked extensively work treating active duty, veterans, and their families and come from a military family. I have worked in inpatient mental health setting, partial hospitalizations program, and outpatient settings with clients ranging from ages 4 to 95.

I enjoy helping individuals find balance by addressing the issues that keep them stuck. Feeling depressed, overwhelmed, anxious and wondering how to work through painful experiences from the past? Sometimes the most important thing you can do is to show up and ask for help. My work is to provide an empathic, nonjudgmental atmosphere for you to work through your discomfort and create a healing experience.
