I can not offer you a magic pill to improve the health of your marriage or family conflict.
Hello, my name is Jerome Ford. Marriage can be challenging, complex and difficult to navigate. It is by far one of the most difficult relationships to maintain when you consider the words “Till death do us part”, that is so often cited when couples decide to get married. Marriage is unlike any other, in that no other relationship enters into such an arrangement. Such an arrangement requires an unwavering commitment and willingness to work hard to develop and maintain a healthy marriage. If you desire a better marriage, a better relationship with your children or your parents and are tired of arguing, there is hope.

I practice CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy), ACT (acceptance and commitment therapy), TF-CBT (trauma-focused CBT), ABA (applied behavioral analysis), solution-focused therapy, and structural and strategic family therapy. I love learning about neurobiology and the effects that stress has on the brain. I primarily use Internal Family Systems to help identify the internal attachment of faulty thoughts and emotions by exploring ways to "detach" and live your life with purpose.
Are you having trouble adjusting to life transitions? Are you bothered that you aren't good enough? Are you concerned that having emotionally immature parents has caused you to struggle in adulthood? Your experiences with transitions could become overwhelming, causing a lack of focus, a decrease in self-esteem, and second-guessing yourself. Imagine if you could understand why you struggle to make changes or adapt to circumstances you can't avoid. Imagine understanding the impact of a lack of emotional maturity or intimacy.

I have worked in multiple areas of mental health including intensive outpatient, outpatient, residential and crisis work and with multiple mental health conditions including depression, anxiety, substance use disorder, eating disorders, probation parole, family, and couple’s therapy. While my work has focused primarily on the LGBTQIA community and BIPOC community, I find joy and purpose working with many cultures, faith backgrounds and communities.

My time as a therapist has predominantly focused on children/teens with clinical issues ranging from severe depression, anger, mood disorders, and those struggling with transitions whether from behavioral issues at school or issues stemming from from changes in their family. It is my belief that therapy should be a collaborative effort between the therapist, family, and child focusing on establishing their own goals for treatment with clinical guidance. I have found that offering a supportive and understanding environment can help both clients and their family a way of addressing their needs even if they feel insurmountable.

You, your family, and your children matter to many people. Sometimes in our lives, it’s remarkable the happenings that we can't comprehend. This is why counseling can help anyone and everyone get a better understanding of their situation by receiving the correct type of treatment in order to move on with their lives. Mentalities do not have to hold us back for the rest of our lives. With the right tools and understanding of how to use them, and with God’s help, you can overcome all obstacles. My sole purpose is to help people get back into loving and caring relationships with one another and, with self-care, have fun and enjoy life!

I have training in EMDR therapy, and utilize various modalities including Internal Family Systems, Strength Based Approach and Mindfulness.
I enjoy helping individuals find balance by addressing the issues that keep them stuck. Feeling depressed, overwhelmed, anxious and wondering how to work through painful experiences from the past? Sometimes the most important thing you can do is to show up and ask for help. My work is to provide an empathic, nonjudgmental atmosphere for you to work through your discomfort and create a healing experience. I hold the belief that we are all resilient and have the internal capacity to heal ourselves. An essential element in this effort is the development of a trusting relationship between client and therapist.

I am trained in individual and family therapy, and Rapid Resolution Therapy (R).
An ideal client will call to address trauma, demoralization, and anxiety, because the joys and satisfactions that seem to be present in the lives of others elude them. They say their best efforts at improving matters fall short. I may suggest that many psychotherapy patients have downloaded flawed software during their formative years, before discernment (i.e., filters) protect us from flawed information about ourselves and how the world works. I explain that psychotherapy and life coaching can provide a means by which this software is de-bugged in a warm and trusting relationship.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
