Today's adults and kids are more connected and busier than ever, yet also feel stuck, unfulfilled, and sometimes lonely. A busy life doesn’t always mean we feel seen and heard. Sometimes life gets messy, and we put on a happy face and tell ourselves, “I will deal with that later.” Pain and loss are realities, but there aren’t lessons in school on how to handle these truths, and our lives can turn gray. The isolation of the pandemic has magnified the importance of human connection. There's something powerful about having a witness to your life story. I would be honored to help you, or your family member find their sunlight.

I have worked with clients experiencing a variety of issues including anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, low self esteem, family conflict, addiction issues, relationship conflict, ADHD and parenting concerns.
I believe we all should be able to live as full a life as possible, rich with positive experiences and relationships. Unfortunately, sometimes things get in the way of that goal. When this happens, we may need help getting back on track. That help can come from many forms, and this is where I may be of assistance. As a counselor for eight years working with children, adolescents, adults and families, I have developed an eclectic style utilizing evidence-based treatments including Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy, Structural Family Therapy and Solution Focused Brief Therapy.

I want to work with any person who has the ability to admit that things are not what they could be, and the courage that it takes to hope for and work towards true change in life. Issues that can be addressed include depression, anxiety, trauma, relationship and family issues. One of the main goals of treatment will be helping the person truly identify what their own goals and expectations for their treatment and more broadly for their life are and to devise steps to making their vision a reality.

Cindy believes humans are physical, mental, emotional, sexual and spiritual beings thus the goal of therapy is to obtain health in all areas of one's being. I believe a client takes the first step to healing as soon as the counseling appointment is made. It's a privilege to observe transformation in a client on the road to hope and healing by focusing on the strengths from within the client. It is exciting to watch a couple go from the brink of divorce to a marriage better than ever.

Through counseling, I want to help individuals become happier and healthier. Counseling is a place for individuals to heal and grow in their emotions. Creating a non-judgmental environment and a calm space is essential for therapeutic growth. Therapy can be hard work, but I am there to walk with you through this journey!

I became a therapist to be a place of peace. I want to create an environment where the client is the priority, a space where they feel safe to do the work they feel ready and able to do. I became a therapist to offer a place of hospitality, empathy, and encouragement. I believe that healing and growth are possible and worth the effort in counseling. I use individual therapy, family therapy, play therapy, EMDR, and psychological testing to help people grow and figure out the problems they face.
I like helping people who are going through a rough patch and need a little extra help to get through. This can be kids, adults, and whole families. While the people who need my help are not feeling so great when they first come in, I am so happy to help them through the tough times and see them come out on the other side feeling like themselves again, and perhaps even stronger.

Life can be a lot. Between work, school, finances, pandemics, financial crisis... I could go on, and on. Some of us are also dealing with debilitating anxiety, depression, and health issues. Many people are seeing the effects in their relationships, their work, and their spiritual life. Now more than ever, it's important to have a sounding board. The old ways of navigating through life might need to be adjusted. You want things to be different, but you're not sure how. You're ready to change, you just need some guidance to find your way.

My passion is to help people overcome feeling "stuck" in unhealthy patterns by facilitating real, healthy changes through self-discovery and practical applications. I am a good "first" therapist for people who are a little afraid of therapy. I have extensive experience working with first responders, military personnel and veterans. It is not just about talking, it is about assessing how life has affected us and developing tools to live a valued life going forward.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
