My primary therapeutic approaches are in EMDR, internal family systems, mindfulness based cognitive therapy, and emotionally focused therapy.
Life is a process and journey. When one feels stuck (sometimes chronically stuck), it is vital to understand why they are stuck and how to get moving forward again. I strive to help my clients to honestly and courageously seek to understand the conceptual nature of their problems with trauma, addiction, and relationship patterns. When clients can attend, listen, understand, validate, care, and nurture themselves, they can find their way in the journey. As couples and families learn to see each other, create and maintain safety and security, and soothe each other they can find deep and satisfying connections.

At Affinity Family Counseling, we acknowledge that each individual has their own set of unique challenges and requirements.
As human beings, we all have an innate desire to give and receive love, as well as to feel a sense of belonging. When these basic needs are not met, we can experience a feeling of being lost and disconnected from the world around us. However, we have the power to overcome these challenges. By acknowledging that we are not alone in our struggles and by taking conscious steps towards leading an authentic and fulfilling life, we can restore our sense of purpose and inner peace. No matter how difficult our circumstances may seem, there is always hope for a brighter tomorrow.

I am passionate about helping my clients improve their relationships with others. Having grown up in diverse locations and cultures, I've always been curious about our world. My goal is to empower my clients by helping them recognize their inner strength and potential to make positive changes in their lives. I've worked with clients on a variety of issues, such as depression, anxiety, addiction, codependency, spirituality, and grief. Depending on the situation, I use techniques like Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Gottman, DBT, and Motivational Interviewing to help my clients achieve their goals.

I work best with anxiety disorders, specifically social anxiety and anxious attachment, especially as they relate to interpersonal relationships. Having trouble with friendships or romantic relationships? I can help! This applies to anyone on the LGBTQ+ spectrum, as well. I love working with faith transitions/crises which are near and dear to my heart. I take a very logical/philosophical approach to therapy, so if you're looking for someone who is knowledgeable and can help you understand issues on a deep level, I'm your therapist

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
