I am happy to work with individuals, but also see great value in working with couples and families. Significant others and/or family members are encouraged and welcome!

Other types of grief can include: loss of a job, loss or changes with identity, or moving away from your family.
Are you currently experiencing sadness from some type of loss? Are you grieving the loss of a loved one, or are you going through a divorce or infidelity? Are you ready to work on the process of healing, and start working toward getting out of the rut you are in? So many of us have experienced a tremendous loss in our lives, and seem to have a difficult time knowing how to move forward in our lives, and learn to find joy in the areas we once did. Grief and loss can be a very lonely experience, but doesn't have to be. You can process it, feel it, and start your journey toward healing.

I see my job as a therapist to work to understand the unique personas of my clients and with the individual, couple, family, or parenting situation come to a clear understanding of how their problems came to be.
I have nearly 45 years experience in many different settings working with children, adolescents, young adults, adults, couples, and families. I enjoy working with all people and believe each person has taught me that all people have unique genetic and environmental backgrounds. I have been trained in many different treatment/therapy modalities. No single modality is capable of treating all people. While there are some general "norms", each person has many unique biological and social influences that are constantly changing and individually being interpreted resulting in different normalities for each person.

With therapy, you can help your child cope with difficult situations while no longer limiting your family’s life experiences.
Today was a hard day. You woke up, went through your routine and tried to keep things as calm as you can, but your child had another meltdown. You are dedicated to your child but sometimes you don’t know how to respond when they act out. You feel alone, like no one understands you or what your child is going through. Your child has difficulty regulating emotions and tantrums often when they are upset. While it can be embarrassing in public because you don’t know how to respond, sometimes it seems like nothing will calm them down. You feel as though your child’s behavior is creating barriers in your life and increasing family stress.

People who grew up in a dysfunctional family or were raised by emotionally immature and unavailable caregivers can expect a range of damaging effects throughout their lifespan. Common experiences in adulthood include a poor sense of self, ineffective boundaries, chronic people-pleasing, overwhelming emotional experiences, and toxic attachment patterns. These may create symptoms of depression, anxiety, and ADHD. You may find yourself estranged from family members you wish you could be closer to. You may even find yourself in a spiritual or identity crisis. If you relate to this, I can help!

I have also been trained in Internal Family Systems (IFS).
Therapy today is geared toward finding problems or issues in people. This approach tends to create an environment where we are made to be victims of our own challenges. Therapy with me is geared toward finding the strengths you already possess and maximizing the potential of those strengths. I am not here to fix you. I am here to empower you to be the best version of yourself. Find out how different therapy can be.

Life transitions can feel brutal. Changes in relationships, jobs, school, family dynamics, and belief systems can cause stress, anxiety, or depression. Life transitions often involve a painful loss and feelings of confusion. They force us to let go of the comfort of familiarity and face uncomfortable thoughts and emotions. With adaptive coping strategies and plenty of self-exploration, they can also be the launching point in which we heal old wounds and find new meaning in the retelling of our story.

I work with you to help you repair the relationships with your family, friends, or spouse—but most importantly yourself.
I provide personalized ketamine assisted therapy. Our brains, like our bodies, fall into patterns. Some of these habits are great like regular exercise, but some mental patterns are unhelpful and hard to break. Here is where ketamine can be transformative. It's not just another treatment; it's a catalyst for change. Ketamine stimulates a part of the brain that's key in forming new thought patterns. It's like unlocking your brain's potential to adapt and grow. When you combine ketamine with therapy, it's not just about temporary relief. It's about fundamentally changing how you interact with your thoughts and emotions.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
