I have been practicing counseling/psychotherapy for over 20 years and have been facilitating family, couple and individual therapy since 1998. I am experienced in inpatient, partial day treatment and outpatient treatment, working with adolescents, adults, couples and families. Using a multi therapuetic approach I am non-judgemental and easy to talk to. I enjoy working with family systems issues as I feel anything impacting one of our family members impacts us all. As a native of Southeast Texas I am familiar with resources and am happy to refer individuals as needed.

The problems we face in our personal lives can be deep and meaningful, but can also feel too complicated to deal with. Everywhere we turn we can find suggestions, opinions, quick fixes, and somehow they never really touch the underlying issue. Our reaction to any perceived problem is usually to become very judgmental of ourselves and to go from one extreme to the other. But we can learn new patterns, new skills, and truly work with ourselves instead of against. My work as a counselor is to provide a space for my clients slow down, to learn to listen, trust, and believe in themselves.

It is easy to feel lost or overwhelmed in today's world. Therapy can help you address many types of issues including depression, anxiety, conflict, grief, stress management, body-image issues, and general life transitions, such as marriage, divorce or parenting teenagers. My clients can expect to be treated with dignity and respect at all times. I conducted my year-long internship in a local behavioral hospital, where I gained experience working with clients of all ages and presenting concerns. I believe that being a well rounded therapist assists me in helping my clients reach their goals.

Through my counseling practice, I desire to empower others to achieve a balanced state of wellbeing, discover their self-worth, reach their fullest potential, and live joyfully. I provide a safe, welcoming, and non-judgmental space for my client’s voice to be heard. Past trauma and current life transitions can be painful and difficult; however, I believe that each of us has the ability to heal and grow stronger. Counseling is a tool that helps us recognize harmful beliefs and behavior patterns, learn new skills with which to resolve problems, and facilitate lasting positive change in our lives.

As a LPC, I have been gifted to operate as a Counselor and I do not take my gift lightly. My goal is to be the voice for those that have never been allowed to speak up for themselves, those that have never realized the beauty they possess and especially those that have never realized their full potential in life. My primary goal in entering the field of mental health over 21 years ago was to assist others in enduring and ultimately healing from the emotional injuries that are often a natural part of living in a complicated world. As I have grown professionally and personally, this basic goal has turned into a firm commitment to provide a safe, nurturing environment for persons of all ages, genders, and ethnicities to speak freely and feel understood. Exploring destructive behavioral patterns, unsatisfying relationships, worrisome thoughts, and other problematic aspects of life can be a rewarding and productive experience.

Everyone has experienced a sleepless night where the burdens and worries of our lives have kept us tossing and turning. Many times those closest to us are the very ones we cannot turn to for help. This is all part of life. But when the tossing and the turning become a constant companion, and when family and close personal relationships become more stressful than supportive, we need a safe place to unburden our inner thoughts, worries and fears. This safe haven is where you can uncover new direction for your life and begin to move into wholeness, free of feeling fragmented.

I work with a variety of clients with differing ages and cultural and environmental backgrounds. My clients range from ages 12 years old and up. My first priority is meeting the client where they are, mentally and emotionally, and ensuring they feel safe and judgement-free.

As a first-generation immigrant Muslim woman, I am grateful to offer representation to those who are seeking to improve their mental health. I was raised as the eldest daughter in an immigrant family dynamic and have an extensive understanding of these family systems and how they affect individuals of different birth orders. I have worked with clients of a variety of age ranges, sexual orientations, and cultural backgrounds and pride myself on multicultural awareness and consideration. I hope to help you make steps towards your ideal self by assisting you in building a functional toolbox with tools you can reach for along the way.

I take a collaborative approach that helps you weave together your unique strengths, culture, spirituality, relationships, and experiences. My additional training in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) has carved out a trauma-informed lens for working with clients of all ages.
