As a therapist working for over twenty-five years with Family Counseling Service, Charlie's Place Recovery Center, multiple Employee Assistance Programs, and in private practice, I have assisted many employees of the City of Corpus Christi, CCISD, the RTA, Christus Spohn Health Care Systems, and many national EAP Programs. I worked for over 15 years in the Nueces County Juvenile Justice Center, am a Designated Mental Health Provider for multiple State Licensing Boards, and as a Critical Incident Stress De-Briefer. My experience has taught me that there are life situations that people go through which can benefit from counseling.

Together we can work on self-esteem, self sabotaging thoughts, insecurities, anger, family conflict, life transitions, anxiety and depression.
Life can be hard. Whether it is transitioning from one phase of life to another or financial and work stressors there is always something that we have to learn to cope with and it can be very easy to start feeling overwhelmed and stuck. I believe every experience in life has a purpose. Nothing happens by chance. Failure, conflict or ending a relationship isn't meant to break us but to provide valuable lessons for us to learn, grow, gain insight, become stronger and live happier. I can support and guide you in your search for inner strength needed to regain your sense of control, purpose and joy.

Being a person is hard. Big life events can make it harder and even daily care tasks make it harder. Sometimes, once we realize we need extra help, it’s hard to find the energy and courage to look for help, to ask for it. This is starting to sound like an endless cycle of things being hard and daily life feeling unmanageable – yikes! That’s where I come in! First thing you need to know: you are okay! You are doing so much better than you think! Fun side note: in addition to being an LPC Associate, I'm also a certified Level II Reiki practitioner.

The individual experiencing depression, anxiety, addiction, anger, and\or relationship issues is the individual I enjoy working with. I am stoked working with an individual ready to look seriously into the root of the problem\s and follow suggested recommendations in order to make changes in her\his life.

In my role as a therapist, I am committed to meeting you at your current point in your journey of self-discovery and healing. I approach our therapeutic relationship with a foundation of genuine connection, tailored specifically to your individual needs. Rather than viewing clients as broken or defined by their challenges, I see seeking therapy as a courageous and rational step towards self-care. We are all united by the shared human experience, and finding the right therapist is about establishing an authentic connection in a safe, non-judgmental, and compassionate space where life's complexities can be explored.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
