Life can be challenging and sometimes the weight of it all can seem heavy! As a dedicated Marriage and Family Therapist Associate, I am passionate about fostering positive transformations both individually and within relationships. With a client-driven approach, I believe in creating a safe and non-judgmental space where individuals, couples, and families can explore, understand, and strengthen their connections. Acknowledging the need for help and reaching out can be intimidating. My goal is to make this part of your journey as comfortable as possible.

I am a trained CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) volunteer; and, when not working or spending time with family, I love yoga.
With over 19 years of experience providing a broad range of mental health services, my current practice strongly emphasizes providing therapeutic interventions for children with behavioral and emotional challenges, while also welcoming the opportunity to work with families, individuals and couples needing counseling services. Over the course of my career, I have gained experience in many elements of the mental health field. Some of those include clinical intake, general counseling, marital counseling, crisis intervention, crisis management, facilitating psychoeducational groups, and child behavior management.

I know that it is hard on you trying to face it all alone. Life transitions, the ups, and the downs can get the best of us. Do you carry trauma from your past? No matter how much progress you are making towards achieving your goals, you tend to feel stuck and can’t seem to weather the storm. I am here to tell you there is light at the end of the tunnel. Do you have trouble falling or staying asleep due to negative thoughts replaying in your head? Have you been stuck in a funk for a while, having feelings of sadness, withdrawing from family or friends, negative thoughts or feelings? There is support on the other end of your phone.

Becoming a parent often brings up a wide range of emotions. Sometimes it is the long awaited reward after struggling with infertility, or bearing the grief of miscarriage and loss. Sometimes it is the excitement of adding to a growing family. Sometimes it is the fear of reliving physical, emotional, or mental pain and hardship. Sometimes it is grappling with the societal and cultural expectations of parenting. The experiences that arise for parents during conception, pregnancy, birth, postpartum and parenting deserve a space for specialized care and attention. This specialized care is what I offer in support of your goals.

We live in a world with set ideals and standards that weigh heavily on us pressing insurmountable expectations that we simply cannot meet. We also live with our own selves and our own minds putting the same demanding and unforgiving pressure on us. So, how might we break free into weightless grace? A jumping off point is beginning with “a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart" (Psalm 51:17). Our brokenness may range from depression, anxiety, grief, bitterness, addictions, shame, mental and emotional anguish and instability and are brought on by different variables such as trauma and attempting to shoulder this weight alone.

I welcome people from different backgrounds and political leanings, unique religious or spiritual beliefs, all kinds of relationship dynamics/combinations, stressful careers, and traumatic experiences. The types that have learned how to “fake it till you make it”. The survivor living off of caffeine and sheer determination. The tired, overlooked and underappreciated human being still carrying the baggage of their last relationship, tough childhood or draining job. Fighters who have lost their spark, but are somehow able to keep everyone else’s flame burning. I see you struggling… silently slipping below the surface. I want to help.

Meeting someone new maybe anxiety provoking, but starting therapy? That is truly a daunting task! You’ve made the first step by recognizing that maybe you should talk to someone. Now, all of these bios sound about the same. Which one to pick? How do you know which one will help you the most? You may be thinking, “oh, forget it, I just can’t make that decision right now.” Or, “I don’t want to sit for an hour and cry while I tell a total stranger my life’s story.” Or, “what if someone finds out that I’m not perfect. What if this person thinks I’m crazy and wants to lock me away forever?“ …

If you're like many of the clients I work with, you may be noticing the impact of your lived experiences. You may feel uncertain about who you are, where you are, or how you are showing up in life. You may be experiencing self-doubt, shame, self-judgment, disconnection, empathy fatigue, compassion fatigue, or burnout. Impacted by past wounds. Overwhelmed with emotions, maybe even avoiding them. You may be unclear of your intentions, purpose, or even your boundaries. If you are going through life challenges or transitions, you may find it difficult to show up as the best version of yourself and wondering why or how to do so.

My typical clients are adults who have so much compassion and empathy for others but find it hard to extend that kindness to themselves. They often don't even realize how much they beat themselves up. They may be recovering from a toxic relationship with a spouse or a parent. They are trying to stop the endless stream of worries and panicked feelings. They want to set down the enormous weight of all those expectations. Mostly, my clients want to feel safe in their homes, communities, relationships, minds and their own bodies. Appointments available now. Schedule online at ChrisEatonLPC.com.

I love helping adults from all stages and walks of life to understand the things that are holding them back in order to find ways through them. After recognizing underlying barriers, we can work towards fully realizing your strengths and adjusting certain behaviors and thoughts to see things and be yourself in a healthier way. In our first session together, we'll complete an assessment focused on exploring your past and present, current challenges and strengths, and specific problems that you hope to overcome. We'll discuss your specific goals for counseling as well as my recommendations for treatment to move towards those goals.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
