After 9 years in the business, what do I think clients want to know up front about our potential process together that will help them decide if we are a good fit? I work well with clients who want a lot of engagement in therapy- equal parts listening AND collaborative problem solving as they work through the experiences of their lives to gain more relief and happiness from their everyday life. The conversations I have with clients which seem to be have a greater impact are informed as much by my study of the field of psychology and its parts- including typical human development and the life cycles, strength based ideas, theories on
attachment and systemic outcomes and the biological factors that may contribute to feelings of anxiety or depression- as they are influenced by the world around us- a random Gilmore Girl or Battlestar Galactica quip or an applicable analogy woven from the current news of the day. I do believe we are products of the world around us- the people who raised us,
the experiences we’ve had, the hopes we have for ourselves AND the basic biological factors that stitch us all together as humans. And I’m always going to be on your side. This isn’t for everyone. I’m Team You and my process of accountability is arrived at from a more nurturing, gentle approach than the “call out” that some clients may prefer.
