My therapeutic philosophy involves utilizing a holistic approach incorporating Gestalt and Adlerian therapies. As a Licensed Professional Counselor who specializes in athletes, children, adolescents, and young adults, I frequently work with clients experiencing issues related to poor sport or school performance, life changes during adolescence, life transitioning from college to career, parenting issues, sibling relationships, and divorce family transitioning. Topical issues may include low self-esteem , ADHD, transitioning from athletic identity, peer relationships, anger management, self-mutilation, eating disorders, and self-empowerment. A fundamental element in my approach is establishing the therapeutic relationship through rapport and building trust between the client and the therapist.

Taking steps to focus on yourself and explore beneath the surface can be daunting. We aren’t meant to navigate life alone, and you deserve someone who can support you through inevitable ebbs and flows, as well as the more painful things you would rather keep hidden. I am proud to provide LGBTQIA+ affirming, trauma informed, culturally responsive, and person-centered care to a diverse client base. I can compassionately uncover patterns that keep you stuck in thoughts, feelings, and behaviors that no longer serve you. As we move through the process of healing, we can replace them with tools that give you access to greater fulfillment.

Imagine a life free from the barrage of doubt, uncertainty, & anxiety. A life where you confidently make decisions that align with your true self, without being overly influenced by the opinions of others. Can you imagine how fulfilling life could be if worries about your health, the constant stream of “what if’s”, & the worst-case scenarios no longer dominated your thoughts?

The way in which we cope with the world is greatly influenced by the way in which we see the world. Therapy can be a safe, non-judgmental space to explore opportunities for change, recognize our strengths, and navigate challenges in our lives. My role as a counselor is to advocate and provide support for clients who are seeking growth, change, and well-being in their lives. I enjoy working with children, adults, and families as they process and heal from trauma while learning more effective coping skills, healthier communication skills and boundaries, and working towards a happier and healthier version of themselves.

I have been in practice 16-years and have opened my service area thanks to Google Meet & Facetime. I became a therapist (I have a dual degree in both individual & family therapy) after beginning my own work over 2 decades ago. I see therapy as a tool, a valuable asset that helps us to pull from our history and present the things that work so our future can be everything we want.

My practice is about supporting you in identifying the kind of life you want and finding the best way to achieve that life. I am progressively oriented.

Have you ever thought – what distinguishes healthy relationships that are able to thrive from unhealthy ones that tend to be full of stress? Is it self-will? Determination? As a couples and family therapist, I believe the one distinguishing factor is "attachment". Attachment is the ability to connect with others. Depending on our ability (or inability) to attach interpersonally, determines the overall satisfaction we experience within our intimate relationships. Also, having been a victim of racism, I opened this practice as a place that people of color can heal from the impact of both blatant and systemic oppression.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
