Accepting NEW clients. I feel privileged that you are reading this to potentially help you, a loved one, or someone you know. I would love to join you on your journey of nurturing your emotional health. Are you the one that has been considering counseling, but keep talking yourself out of it because you have lived with many of these symptoms for so long, and think you can just keep going on with them. My philosophy in counseling is to help others be the best version of themselves, promote healing, reach their potential with their goals, guide them on how to get there while overcoming any barriers.

If you are wrestling with relationship issues with others - marriage, parenting/co-parenting, divorce, infidelity, secrecy, blended family issues, emotional abuse or childhood trauma, or if you are wrestling with relational issues within yourself - shame, identity, self-harm, anxiety, and depression, call me.
Relationships provide a window to the heart of an individual like no other. Our closest relationships tend to reveal our most wounded places. Those hurts, if left unresolved, are carried forward and recast into our exiting patterns of relating. All our experiences, but most particularly our pain, become the filter through which we sift and construct our view of self, our approach to life, our capacity love and be loved, and our ability to trust.

Deciding to begin therapy can be a difficult choice. I strive to create a place of safety and healing so that each family or individual I work with is able to fully benefit from the therapeutic process. I believe that the relationship between therapist and client is sacred and the foundation for therapy. I am grateful and honored to have the opportunity to assist people when they are experiencing difficult times. We can all feel stuck at times, and it is an honor to be able to assist someone in the process of becoming unstuck.

Substance abuse and chemical dependency affect more people than you may think. Addiction touches the lives of everyone around the addict, not just the individual. Family members and loved ones of addicts may need therapy just as much as the addict. I enjoy working with those seeking true relief from their addictions, codependency and helping the family understand their part. Loved ones didn't cause someone's addiction, can't control it, and can't cure it, but therapy can help us better understand and cope with the effects of substance abuse.

Have you ever thought – what distinguishes healthy relationships that are able to thrive from unhealthy ones that tend to be full of stress? Is it self-will? Determination? As a couples and family therapist, I believe the one distinguishing factor is "attachment". Attachment is the ability to connect with others. Depending on our ability (or inability) to attach interpersonally, determines the overall satisfaction we experience within our intimate relationships. Also, having been a victim of racism, I opened this practice as a place that people of color can heal from the impact of both blatant and systemic oppression.

I hold a Bachelors degree in Family/Child Development, Minor in Early Childhood Development and Masters degree in Rehabilitation Counseling.
To reach out for help is pure courage but it is not without fear. You don’t have to figure it all out…just one action forward is enough right now. Helping people, healing lives, is my life mission and goal. I have dedicated the majority of my adult life to build the knowledge, skills, and abilities to serve and help others in need. Every single human being has purpose and worth; some need guidance, support, love, and care to reach that purpose. I strive to learn from each individual I have the honor to work with, implement that learning and instill hope, belief and self-worth. I am eager to understand you and how I can help!

You do not need the cooperation of others to make improvements in your marriage or family, so it is useful to come alone.
Life has a tendency to throw unexpected situations, problems, and experiences at us. During these times, it is wise to seek guidance for our personal lives, marriages, families, and professional situations. Together, we will examine your current life situation, what is achievable, and how to move forward. Characteristics of narcissism, controlling behaviors, and problematic situations can affect one's mental health significantly. I work both with the person who struggles with these problems as well as those who are in relationships with that person. I work with individuals, couples, and families.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
