Reaching out takes great courage, especially when someone is seeking guidance. Life has the tendency to cause people to cope in ways that are not necessarily beneficial. They may develop problems like depression or anxiety as a result of stressors. Or, they may turn towards abusing substances as a way to change how they feel. Reaching out for help during this time may be scary and seem impossible. My goal, as a therapist, is to come alongside my clients so that they don’t walk alone through whatever may be troubling them. I hope to be able to help anyone struggling to deal with life on life’s terms.

I work with clients who are willing to invest in themselves and their personal growth and healing. I believe that all of us have been wounded in various ways and to differing degrees by the vicissitudes of life and events of our past. I do not pathologize our natural responses to such painful events but rather help people to heal from them. This frees people to live fully in the present.

I provide therapy for clients facing a broad range of challenges including, but not limited to trauma, depression, anxiety, difficult personal or family relationships, and counselor burn out, among others.
This is always the hard part, finding a counselor that feels right for you, and the initial discomfort in meeting them for the first time. I will endeavor to make this part as seamless as possible while striving to see the world through your eyes. We often have the idea that if we don't solve our problems alone we have somehow failed. I believe that we can thrive when we are able to discuss our problems with someone we trust. My hope is that I can provide a space where you feel comfortable discussing your concerns. You've come this far, all that's left is to take those first few, difficult steps.

I strive to focus on supporting those who seek healing from difficult traumas, hurtful loss, heartache, and any incongruencies that they see are damaging their lives. This can be evident for the young and older, the sexual or gender minority, and any culture or race. Clients need a safe place to share their unique world and it is my goal to provide that. When we feel safe, un-biasedly heard and embrace a healthy vulnerability....true self-growth occurs.

LGBTQ+ people experience many different situations and circumstances that are unique to the LGBT community. Your gender and orientation doesn't define you, but it does play a large role in your life and impacts many different other issues that you may face. You deserve a counselor who not only understands this, but also knows how to incorporate a person's whole self into counseling and addresses the specific challenges unique to the LGBTQ+ Community.

Have you ever thought – what distinguishes healthy relationships that are able to thrive from unhealthy ones that tend to be full of stress? Is it self-will? Determination? As a couples and family therapist, I believe the one distinguishing factor is "attachment". Attachment is the ability to connect with others. Depending on our ability (or inability) to attach interpersonally, determines the overall satisfaction we experience within our intimate relationships. Also, having been a victim of racism, I opened this practice as a place that people of color can heal from the impact of both blatant and systemic oppression.

Sometimes life can get overwhelming. Between work, relationships, school, home life, when does it stop or change? Do you feel like yelling, crying, not caring, shutting down, or just running away? (Raising my hand). Lets change it; whether it is your marriage, relationship, family, mind, or just you. Let's clear out the mess of anxiety, depression, distraction, fear, doubt, confuson, loss, sadness, and anything else holding you down; and replace it with something greater. If not, that's alright...feel free stop by for a hot cup of tea.

A trained therapist is a neutral person who can be honest with you about your difficulties in a way that a friend or family member cannot be.
It takes great courage to go to counseling because it requires us to be vulnerable. The paradox is that it is precisely through our vulnerability that we arrive at greater joy and belonging to ourselves and to others. Let me start off by saying that counseling can really make a difference in the quality of our lives. With my clinical experience and background, I help people find their true selves and engage life from that deeper place. Things that cause us anxiety and depression are seen with proper perspective and life becomes smoother and more joyful! Hablo espanol!

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
