Often, they struggle with low mood, work-life balance, family conflict and relationship stress.
We all encounter major stress and loss and often we recover well on our own. Sometimes life becomes overwhelming, confusing and too big to process alone. You can reach out for support, and you don’t have to do it alone. Through therapy, you have the power to focus on what helps you learn and grow. I am passionate about helping clients connect to their core values in therapy. We'll use mindfulness-based therapies to help you become aware of thoughts and behaviors that prevent you from experiencing a joyful and authentic life. I enjoy using humor, creativity and self-compassion in my practice.

My counseling approach centers the client through compassionate presence and I draw from a mix of humanistic orientation, multicultural counseling, career counseling, feminist theory, relational-cultural theory, Internal Family Systems, positive psychology, cognitive behavioral therapy, spirituality, creativity, mindfulness, and trauma-informed theory.
Finding the right therapist can be difficult, maybe you have asked yourself questions like “will they “get” me?”, “do they know what it’s like to feel torn in multiple directions?” Or maybe, if you are anything like me, you have asked yourself “is there something wrong with me?”, “where are the therapists that look, even vaguely, like me?” As a half-Asian, bicultural woman of color, I’m passionate about supporting others who live at the intersection of multiple identities.

It feels like your teen is living life through a screen and you don't know what to do. You used to set screen time limits and watch what your child did online. They became a teenager, and it got harder. Then the pandemic happened, and they had to be on a screen all the time. As things have gotten safer and are back to “normal”, you noticed your teen’s screen habits have remained the same. They spend more and more time online and less and less time in person with family or friends. You don’t know what to do. Whenever you try to restrict their time online it doesn't lead to them leaving the house or making friends.

I believe relationships define each of us and form the foundation for our life. I work from a systemic perspective with couples, individuals, and families to create relationships that define not only who we are, but also who we desire to become. I help clients with their relationships, intimacy, connection, communication, and sexual compatibility. I work with a lot of women who have suffered from Narcissistic abuse in relationships and family of origin. I also help those who are confused in their current relationships. I enjoy helping those who have autoimmune disease and cancer redefine their sexuality, relationships and desire.

I take pride in my ability to relate to a large population, and I enjoy working with clients 12 years of age and up. My clients over the years have had: depression, anxiety disorders, adjustment difficulty, as well as teenagers with a variety of school, peer, family, and self-esteem issues. I work best with clients who are motivated for change, but also understand that teenagers often come to therapy at the urging of parents and may be resistant at first. I welcome women's issues, veteran's issues, LGBTQ issues, those who are just "stuck", going through a life transition or folks who have been in and out of therapy for years.

Clients often come to me to talk about LGBTQ+ identity, self-image & shame, improving relationships, big life changes, high achieving and 'adulting,' multiracial identity, and the family you grew up in.
I already know you are worthy of a life full of joy. You are innately deserving of love and compassion, though you may have learned that you’re not enough. While you’re doing your best with the tools you have now, with nonjudgmental support and guidance, you can grow and flourish. Together, we will develop a healing partnership where you can feel safe when vulnerable, comforted in your struggles, and encouraged as you are guided toward what you need to feel more secure in the world. Empowering and personalized therapy is where we start.

I have experience working with the LGBTQ community, specifically trans folks (adults, children, and their families), mood and anxiety disorders, substance use disorders, as well as family dynamics.
At times, it can feel like the world is spinning out of control. Whether it be our personal and professional lives, interpersonal relationships, navigating a series of collective and systemic traumas, or a mixture of these things. Sometimes we are looking for ways to improve our situation, other times we are looking to find acceptance and to sit with what's out of our control. Sometimes we can find ways to distract from these things, and then there are instances where we need to face them head on. How do we know what we need to do, and when?

I work from a family systems perspective in order to understand how your family of origin may have contributed to your development.

In addition, I work with adults who are struggling with anxiety, depression, lack of connection and trauma. I also work with women and couples experiencing reproductive difficulties, fertility intervention and postpartum adjustment. Additionally, I often work with high achievers and perfectionists.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
