I am Elizabeth GeorgAnn Meyer and I go by Georgie. I am a native Texan where I am a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate supervised by Allison Cornell, LPC-S. I have a Bachelor of Science from Tarleton State University and a Masters of Education in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Lamar University. I started my journey in the engineering field because I love to learn how things work. I love to create and build. My path then led me to learn how people work, how I work, and how to create and problem solve for healthy growth within ourselves. We all have our own journey. I would be honored to explore your journey with you.

By exploring family of origin dynamics, in addition to using CBT skills, we can work together to heal and understand the impact of your past on your current circumstances.
Do you prioritize others above yourself? Are you going through a difficult time in your life? Have you noticed negative patterns in your relationships? As a clinical psychologist, I assist my clients in meeting their goals and improving their relationships. Therapy is used to improve communication, problem solving, and increase coping skills. One if my areas of expertise is helping clients who are working through a particularly challenging time in their lives, and are having difficulty moving forward from their experience. Improving self esteem through greater understanding and acceptance of oneself is part of that work.

I work with clients of all ages and backgrounds on a variety of mental health concerns including professional burnout, stress, anxiety, grief, family conflict, trauma, anger management, depression, motivation, men’s issues, non-normative communities, and self-esteem.
Change is inevitable. Pain is probable. Suffering is optional. Many of us already have the strength to manage change but need a little help finding the courage and confidence. That is why I take a collaborative, flexible, transformational, dynamic, and strength-based approach to empower clients to face life’s circumstances. I could help equip you with just tools to tackle your personal and professional obstacles or I can work alongside you and through dialogue help you to develop your own tools for long term sustainable strategies and an independent and purposeful life.

People who face serious life transitions, developmental hurdles, and a dark night of the soul, are those who I would love to work with. If you are trying to find the motivation and energy to heal and grow, our work in counseling could be just the thing to get you moving in a healthier direction. I have a deep interest in the phenomenon of addiction and recovery, whether to substances or process (behavioral) addictions. I can also attend to those who have been affected by addiction in family of origin, or their loved ones, past and current.

Transcultural psychiatry identifies the role of social and cultural factors in your challenges, specifically useful if you or your family have migration history.
Loss, failure, and separation are major root causes of many forms of suffering in life. But they are not always evident, we may be too young when live through them, or we may not feel their impact until long after an event. Sometimes they even travel through generations. As a psychotherapist, I have spent over 25 years helping people who suffered from a variety of emotional and relational problems created by one or a combination of these issues, ranging from basic unhappiness to unhealthy relationships, workplace conflicts, divorce and separations, parents struggling with their children, migration and forced separation, even trauma.

My counseling approach centers the client through compassionate presence and I draw from a mix of humanistic orientation, multicultural counseling, career counseling, feminist theory, relational-cultural theory, Internal Family Systems, positive psychology, cognitive behavioral therapy, spirituality, creativity, mindfulness, and trauma-informed theory.
Finding the right therapist can be difficult, maybe you have asked yourself questions like “will they “get” me?”, “do they know what it’s like to feel torn in multiple directions?” Or maybe, if you are anything like me, you have asked yourself “is there something wrong with me?”, “where are the therapists that look, even vaguely, like me?” As a half-Asian, bicultural woman of color, I’m passionate about supporting others who live at the intersection of multiple identities.

Individuals, Couples, Family, and Adolescents.
"You are here on earth because there is something that only you can do!" Choosing Now as the time to act and being fully present in your body and in your relationships will take you to infinite possibilities. All of life's answers lie in how deep you are connected to yourself. Do not turn your attention elsewhere to look for the truth, for it is nowhere to be found but within your body.

Our practice is uniquely tailored for individuals and couples dating to marry, married for 3+ years, or those needing to heal from past or current relational trauma. The couples we support usually want peace with their partner and to build a sustaining partnership. To achieve this, we address what's causing trauma and unhealthy distance in their relationship.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
