I have extensive experience in crisis intervention, coordination & case management, performing individual, family, & group therapy, as well as the management of an intensive outpatient program (IOP).
If you're looking for lasting change, more fulfilling relationships, and meaningful connection, then let's begin. Whatever brings you to therapy, there is hope. Together we will observe how the events in your life have formed deep rooted beliefs about how the world will respond to you. I believe that change happens in the context of relationships. Our therapeutic relationship will work to ease your distress and equip you towards transformation. We haven't been promised not to experience pain in this life, but I believe we are not meant to experience it alone.

I like to help you identify behaviors and discern choices that will lead towards your desired lifestyle or go inward with you and explore the deeper levels of your consciousness using an Internal Family Systems modality and mindfulness work to facilitate self-acceptance and self-love.
Treading water long enough can lead to exhaustion and the waves of life can often feel unsurmountable on your own. The loudness in our cultures and in our minds bring heavy burdens that can trap you and make you forget who you really are. It takes a great deal of courage to reach for something different. You have taken a huge step considering therapy. Choosing someone you can trust and feel the freedom to be authentic with, in order to explore some of the deepest parts of life, is important. I am passionate about helping you find this freedom and live authentically while embodying your truest nature, despite the waves that come.

I am passionate about helping couples craft deeply nourishing and caring relationships. In our meetings we learn the skills required for loving another person well: good communication, problem solving and repair. We explore what it means for each person to feel loved and cared for and work toward a dance that honors each members unique preferences. I also help couples have important conversations about crafting a mutually satisfying shared vision of what a meaningful life is as romantic partners, parents and community members. We work on healing from painful past ruptures such as infidelity, substance use and frequent fighting.

Addiction is very much a family disease that instigates and amplifies complex wounds.
To move confidently into our future, we must resolve the past while remaining grounded in the present. Everyone is capable recreating their lives and expanding upon their healing, but this process often requires deeper insight into who we are, what we’ve been through, and what beliefs we’ve accumulated because of these experiences. I’m here to help you manage the challenges that come with tackling a new life in recovery, guide awareness into what initiated the destructive cycle to begin with, and support you to reach new goals beyond just getting sober.

Have you been feeling trapped by societal expectations, questioning your personal identity, facing relationship conflicts or stifling family dynamics? These coping modes often stem from our family of origin and are not adequate for healthy adult functioning and impede forward progress. If you recognize this in yourself and are seeking a change in your approach to life, look no further. If you are ready to commit to change in whatever form it may come, reach out to me.

As a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate under supervision of Toby Collins and Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist Associate under supervision of Carla Noto-Vencill, Mary specializes in emotional and physical abuse from family, interpersonal, and romantic relationships - and how it presents in one's personality or behavior.
Mary works with individuals and couples to address attachment and emotional enmeshment, performance anxiety, moral injury and religious trauma, personality dynamics, and systems that cause people to feel stuck in life and relationships. Using an eclectic, psychodynamic approach to postmodern and constructivist theories, clients can expect to find meaning in problem solving and strengthen interpersonal relationships outside of therapy. In doing so, Mary integrates humor and everyday language in evidence-based therapies to educate clients along the way.

I have been a practicing psychotherapist for more than thirty years and work with couples, families, and individuals 18 years old and up. My areas of specialty are addiction, alcohol use, anxiety, anger management, behavioral issues, and many more. I use various modalities: Acceptance and Commitment (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral (CBT), Existential, Exposure Response Prevention, Schema Therapy, Interpersonal, Marital, and Family Therapy. At times this can appear to be difficult, but it is much more difficult to avoid our problems.

Occasionally I provide education on attachment styles and family systems.
I am originally from Las Vegas and have resided in Texas for the past three years. My practice focuses on presenting a new perspective to finding peace within self. I became a therapist to help those when they are in their darkest hour and to provide a safe therapeutic space to work through these inner conflicts. My clients describe me as a therapist that is open, accepting, and challenges them to take effective action towards change.

Anxiety is annoying. Depression is annoying. It doesn't have to be. Trauma is overwhelming. You can learn to lessen and live with these struggles. Take control. The power is in your hands. It's a journey... or any other cliche saying that works in therapy. It's all welcome here. I work with clients diagnosed with a variety of mental health disorders including psychosis, schizophrenia, and bipolar disorder. I specialize in military and military family struggles. I also have experience working with law enforcement and other first responders.

I primarily work with clients within queer community, especially trans folks, and lifestyles such as kink, polyamory, or sex work. My hope is to provide a safe space (and a sliding scale!) where you don't have to spend your time in therapy educating your therapist on the concepts that are everyday within your own life. I love work around emotional regulation, communication and conflict resolution, with individuals and with multiple people within a relationship, to help develop healthier coping mechanisms, processing techniques, and self-acceptance/self-care methods to improve feelings of empowerment, security, and life satisfaction.

I had a psychology practice in Austin for 20 years, relocating to Albuquerque in 2012. As an outgrowth of my continuing work with clients from Texas, I have developed a specialty in providing internet therapy. My specialties include eating disorders, complex mood disorders, personality disorders, recovery from narcissistic abuse, and helping families with "failure to launch" young adults. I also provide consultation to parents who are struggling with an oppositional adolescent or an adult child with ongoing difficulties. I provide both therapeutic and forensic psychological evaluations.

My work emphasizes identifying & isolating troubling emotions that lead to negative thinking and behaving, and learning to think & act according to reason. I am offering in-person sessions and teletherapy.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
