I take an approach that is evidence based and Attachment focused, through the lense of Family Systems Theory.
Are you feeling stuck in your life or your relationships? I am here to help. I work with couples and individuals to help achieve the goals you want to accomplish. I want to help you get unstuck so you can live the life you were made to live.

I typically work with issues concerning life transitions, addiction, couples conflict, and Family of Origin. I also love working with clients looking to detransition/desist. I have significant experience working with complex cases. Each client brings their individual stories into the room. By the time we seek help, life has typically not been going as we expected. We want to find a way out, but are unsure how to do so. What we need is someone to help us be a guide through to recovery. This is a life-long change that will need continued support. Not only is this our battle, but the battle of those around us.

Being trained in marriage and family therapy means that I am not only trained in traditional psychotherapy, but also in family systems.
In my personal and professional life, I have found one thing to be true: Life can be hard. I have a passion for supporting others in resolving pain and reclaiming fullness in life. While pain is an inevitable part of the human experience, suffering is optional. I am dedicated to helping individuals, couples, and families heal from relational and other traumas, problematic sexual behaviors, addictions, and intimacy disorders. I see brokenhearted adults and children as they learn to cope with an unstable world. My heart is to heal the broken hearted and give hope where hope was once lost.

At work, you’re a rock star! You can handle anything that comes your way. Whenever there’s a problem, you’re the one who fixes it. It’s your show and you’re killing it. So why do you feel so unfulfilled? On paper, you’re successful – making your family proud. But inside, something is still missing. A longing emptiness sits deep in the pit of your stomach. You’ve always worked so hard to pursue goals “at any cost,” but you’ve begun to realize that the cost was your well-being. All of your relationships seem to be out of obligation. You never have any time to care for yourself. Unless something changes, things will only get worse...

Family members are torn between "tough love" and enabling.
Accepting New Clients - Grief, low self-esteem, trauma and shame are a part of addiction. Whether you are living in addiction, loving someone in addiction or grieving the loss of someone you love - it is exhausting! What could have been done to prevent it? How do you take care of yourself and begin to heal when addiction seems to have taken everything? I am passionate about helping individuals/families create strategies to overcome barriers that keep them stuck in unhealthy thought patterns and choices. I have a heart for providing a safe space to heal and to begin to explore life on the other side.

Whether you are dealing with problems from a dysfunctional family of origin, women's issues, men's issues, marital issues, relationship issues, anxiety, depressed mood, ADHD, I seek clients who are willing to work to make changes in themselves through cognitive-behavioral counseling rather than those who only want others to change.
A large part of my practice centers around working with families and helping parents of children who may be having behavior problems at home or at school and working with the children and adolescents themselves. I incorporate child-centered play therapy with young children as well as Adlerian and behavioral concepts with parents. I am a licensed psychologist with Health Service Provider in Psychology credential, a Registered Play Therapist-Supervisor, and a retired MTSU professor after teaching in the Professional Counseling Program for 25+ years. In addition to helping families, I also work extensively with couples and individuals who may be experiencing a variety of problematic daily living situations.

Life can be hard, and sometimes we need some extra help and support to get through those difficult times. Whether it's dealing with young children or teenagers, relationship or family issues, anxiety or depression, the challenges of college life or jobs, or the curve ball that life throws at us, it can be stressful to manage, and can be helpful to have someone outside of the situation to talk with.

That's why I'm learning more about Internal Family Systems because I believe that if we listen to the parts of us that are bothering us, we can learn what we truly need.
Developmentally in the US, we begin to truly form our identity as teenagers, but sometimes that gets stunted for one reason or another. I want to be able to walk by your side while you discover and choose who you want to be at whatever age that may happen. Anxiety, depression, and OCD are other issues I focus on.

I am so happy you're here, as you step courageously into the therapeutic journey. I believe in order to heal, it is important to tell your story and be heard, so that you can understand how every part makes up who you are. For over five years, I have had the pleasure of listening to clients stories. I have supported clients struggling with depression, anxiety, mood disorders, self-esteem/body image challenges, grief, trauma, family dynamics and interpersonal relationships. My hope is that you can heal the broken parts, and step into a more fulfilled life.

Overwhelmed? Anxious? Experiencing family conflict? Stuck with traumatic memories? Your value is not impacted by facing these common problems in life. There is hope for you and your relationships! It may be difficult to see that hope in the darkness of depression or stress, but let's work together to find the hope that is already there!

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
