Together, we can develop a comprehensive plan that inspires wellness, success, healthy relationships, and life meaning for you and your family.
In life one will encounter many challenges and obstacles. Support can differ for each individual as change is inevitable. Sometimes help is needed to move forward on the journey to conquering the unknown and the path to inner peace. Everyone desires to embrace change and create possibilities for achievement of goals.

I enjoy working with adolescents and adults individually, with partners, or as a family.
Life can be beautiful and joyful, but it can also be difficult and challenging. Those challenges can lead to feelings of loneliness, depression, anxiety, shame, anger, and stress among others and those negative thoughts are a vicious cycle that can ultimately lead to unwanted and undesired behaviors. Before you know it, you don’t feel in control anymore. What if I told you that the cycle doesn’t have to continue? That you are worthy and capable of stopping that cycle with your own strengths and abilities?

Is your family hurt by addiction? Does your relationship with your partner feel like it keeps going in circles? Are you working through your LGBQI and Trans* identity? Each of these scenarios can be hard on your mental health, your everyday tasks, and your family. You may feel like no one understands what you and your family are going through. You have reached out to your family and friends, but they do not fully understand. They want to fix your problem without sitting with you through the pain. Without fully understanding you.

It feels like you don't even know how to talk to the people in your own home anymore. It hasn't always been this way, but for awhile now, you and your significant other just aren't on the same page. Maybe it feels like you don't really know your kids, ever since they've become teenagers it's like you can't communicate with them. You miss having the real intimacy with your spouse. You miss being close with your family. You want that again but it feels like there's this wall between you, everything is a fight, and you don't know how to fix it.

Life can feel overwhelming. One minute it's your job, then your relationship, next the kid(s), your family, and maybe even painful memories from your childhood. You just can't seem to catch a break. You try everything to get on the right track, but something always seems to get in the way. You've tried so hard to climb out of the worry, frustration and sadness; but eventually it's just exhausting. Should you give up? Or maybe just do the bare minimum to get by. You don't know which way to turn.

So many times we delay prioritizing what we really want; whether that is to resolve past trauma, restore relationships, improve communication, learn better parenting practices, support our family members, reduce symptoms, or increase our quality of life. With support, we are all able to reflect on and discern how to achieve our goals. I can provide a rich history of understanding trauma, healing, hope, and change.

I would be honored to work with you and your family to identify strengths and areas for growth, creating the space you need to facilitate change and healing.
Carl Rogers stated, "The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change." You may feel overcome with a lack of control over your own emotions or actions, or maybe you feel at a loss for how to support your child while continuing to form a strong and healthy relationship. I strive to help you or your child work towards authenticity while learning to effectively explore and cope with strong emotions and develop positive communication skills. I am confident in the power of cultivating these vital skills at an early age and empowering caregivers to encourage continued growth.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
