I try to explain how previous life and family experiences have shaped how the client deals with current issues and past events, fucusing on any traumatic events in his/her life.
I primarily deal with the current issues that a client is coming into therapy for. I want to know if they were in therapy before and why. I primarily deal with a Family Systems Approach and due to that will be interest in the clients background and their family history. I will focus on current and past stressors and any traumatic experiences that the client identifies either currently or from children. I am currently only providing online services. I currently have openings and can schedule an appointment within several days of being contacted online or via my telephone number at 506-9620.

You’ve been thinking about therapy for a while now. You feel overwhelmed by the daily grind. Unable to balance the demands of work and family. Doing nothing is no longer an option. Maybe you’re feeling stuck in a negative headspace. Over-thinking things. Distracted at work. Feeling less present at home. Headed down the old path towards self-destructive behaviors. You're not alone. You aren’t damaged, weak, or “broken.” You’re none of those things. You’re simply human.  And, these days, being human can be incredibly hard.

The alarm clock goes off every morning and the mind begins racing. Are there enough hours in the day to tackle your to-do list, balance a relationship/family, and get ahead in school or your career? It sure doesn’t feel like it right now. Being human means being susceptible to life’s challenges. You’ve probably tried many ways to manage your stressors like talking to friends or family, buying self-help books, Googling ways to get it all together. It doesn’t feel like enough. Here’s where therapy can help!

How do you feel right now? What do you need? What do you want? Change in our lives can only come from a better understanding of who we really are. Validation of past experiences, wounds and traumas. Through exploration, comes a willingness to work to change. Not who you are, but how you are; in relationships, at work, with your family and with yourself. Reducing anxiety, feeling less depressed, better able to deal with overwhelming emotions. Contentment.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
