Are you needing help with creating a new relationship, or ending an old one? Dealing with family issues, career change, work stress, social anxiety, or just feeling stuck in general? Overwhelmed by the pandemic in all of it’s stages? You do not have to be alone with this.
The decision to start therapy is personal and courageous and not always easy. Everyone goes through times when they feel more stressed out, angry, anxious or depressed. It is easier for people to explore their lives and make transformations when they are working with a therapist that they feel comfortable with and trust. My intention is to help you identify the goals you want to work on and to help you understand what is getting in the way of achieving them. I ultimately want to give you a new perspective and look at your underlying belief systems and the repetitive patterns that have been keeping you stuck.

I have 20 yrs experience, work relationally and can support you in navigating relationships with your own internal experience, with your family, friends, colleagues and/or with romantic stressors - from not being in one and wanting to be, to becoming better equipped within yours, to ending and/or starting anew.
Imagine connecting to yourself and others in new ways by getting clear that within you is a resiliency, a capacity to thrive even as part/s of you may be depressed, anxious, struggle with relationships, and/or are self critical. Imagine beginning to trust that your life can be more of what you want it to be. Working together in a supportive and open way, we can integrate talk, art and other forms of creativity to explore your life. As the creation of a new idea, feeling and/or image arises, as you reframe your past, master feelings, recognize resiliencies, and create new thought patterns - growth and healing occurs.

Congratulations on taking this step in seeking help and support for yourself or your family. I work with children and adolescents, families, men, and women. My 20-plus years of clinical work with children and families is built on an attachment-oriented foundation and is informed by my personal experience as an adoptive parent and training in relevant play and family therapies. Regardless of a child’s emotional/behavioral presentation or attachment (RAD) history, I view parents as partners in their child’s therapeutic process and support and guide them, in parent sessions and/or in family sessions with their child.

Milestones like graduating college, having a child, or going through a break up can trigger stress, anxiety, and existentialist thinking. I help people stay centered and connected to themselves as they move into new life stages. During these times, our relationships and identities often come into focus, especially when it comes to forming new friendships, changing family structures, or starting a new romantic relationship. In our work together, we’ll explore all the intersecting parts of your identity and focus on ways to build healthy, nourishing connections with the people around you.

Finding the key to happiness, I have always believed, comes from understanding yourself and coming to terms with who you are. I work very compassionately, without judgment, in a collaborative fashion, to help facilitate greater self- acceptance and equanimity. Whether we investigate your own family dynamics or process through Emotionally Focused Therapy, sessions will help uncover the underlying emotional beliefs that direct your own internal "story".

My training in early human development, family systems, mindfulness, and yoga is integrated in my work.
At times in our lives we are faced with transitions, experiences, or emotions that can feel destabilizing or challenge our familiar ways of coping. Present day stressors may lead to anxiety or depression, or connect with unresolved trauma from the past. Developing a strong therapeutic relationship with clients provides the safety and connection that is key for therapy to be helpful. It is a foundation from which to explore and understand your feelings and experiences. I am active and collaborative in listening, inquiring, and guiding.

I'm a psychologist who works with children, adolescents and adults, specializing in loss, trauma and family issues, in English and Spanish. I use integrative, strengths and evidenced-based therapy. I believe that humans are inherently wired for resilience. In particular contexts, our once healthy coping skills may prevent us from returning to our adaptive core. In therapy, I urge patients to learn to experience and tolerate emotions, access instinctive coping capacities and build a flexible mindset. This method allows patients to uncover strengths, and deepen their sense of hope, leading lives filled with vitality and exuberance.

Trauma can perpetuate loneliness and prevent you from connecting with yourself and others. I help clients work on increasing self-esteem by building self-compassion and self-acceptance. I also use the therapeutic relationship as a way to experience positive connection. This relational work is often a starting point to a sense of well-being and belonging outside of the therapy room. As a facilitator and companion in this process, I will support you on your path towards healing and creating a life that honors and reflects your truest self. Being in a safe, compassionate space can facilitate this process.

Sometimes it is difficult to adjust to or understand what is happening in your life and how you feel. It is often moments or seasons of change that make us feel alone, overwhelmed, hopeless, or numb to trauma and chronic stress, but these can be transformed into positive change. My main goal is to help you make sense of or minimize these feelings and identify and remove barriers to living a fulfilling life.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
