For over a decade I have worked with the LGBTQ+ community, adolescents, young adults and adults regarding family & relationship issues, life transitions, career stress/burnout, self image, anxiety, depression and trauma.
For some, therapy provides a space to address an acute crisis, chronic symptoms or to expand awareness of oneself and sometimes a mix of all three. I believe therapy is most impactful when it is tailored to each person’s unique needs and concerns. This looks different for everyone and might even look different throughout your journey. Good therapy can help you to make the changes you have been struggling with, identify the patterns that might be holding you back and ultimately help you to create a more fulfilling life.

There's no "one size fits all" when it comes to therapy and I will draw from CBT, trauma theory, solution-focused therapy, couples and family therapy approaches to help you.
The strategies that usually get you through are not working like they used to anymore. What once felt like your strengths have now turned into weaknesses. Whether you are stuck making an important life decision, are feeling overwhelmed with life, are having an identity crisis, or an important relationship is slipping away...I am here to help you take the risks that you need to take in order to get on track.

Drawing from systemic family therapy, queer theory, and liberation-based healing, I employ trauma-informed interventions with collaborative approach.
Healing starts when we know what to heal from, believe that we can heal, and connect with our inner and external resources to heal. As a relational therapist, I support individuals, couples and families in navigating life transitions and cross-cultural issues, managing mental health symptoms, processing shame, guilt, and loss, improving communication and intimacy, and addressing the impact of systemic oppression on our sense of self and our relationships. I'm committed to supporting BIPOC and LGBTQ+ community. Together we discover and embrace your authentic self, release your inner strengths for personal and relational growth.

I am trained in trauma-informed therapeutic approaches including EMDR, and have completed courses in Internal Family Systems, Sensorimotor psychotherapy, Integrative Harm Reduction, The Maastricht Approach to Hearing Voices, and liberation-based healing practices.
Do you struggle to express your voice? Are you longing for more fulfilling relationships where you feel seen and heard? Does peace of mind feel out of reach? We are not meant to face life’s challenges and hardships alone. We will work together to put words to your experience and to make sense of what you are feeling, setting the stage for new possibilities to emerge. I am interested in learning about the life you have lived and how you experience the world. Most of us are trying to do the best we can and need spaces where we can feel heard, seen, and accepted in our full humanity, without judgment.

My approach begins with a focus on the strengths of the couple, family, or individual.
Disappointment, failure, loss, frustration, anger and sadness are unavoidable aspects of human existence. The past cannot be rewritten. But the way in which we choose to come to terms with the past - as either members of a familial unit, a couple, or an individual - will go a long way towards determining our happiness in the present. I bring a warm, compassionate, non-judgmental approach to my work that arises out of my deeply held conviction that the most important determinant of therapeutic success will be the therapeutic alliance between patient and therapist.

Making the decision to seek out therapy is a courageous and transformational step toward positive change. I believe that therapy is for all, and that anyone can achieve recovery to restore emotional health and balance in their lives. Many of my clients struggle with anxiety, depression, trauma, family dynamics and self-esteem. I also help clients grappling with disordered eating, such as restricting food, compensatory behaviors and body acceptance. My style is trauma-informed, affirming and compassionate, and I try to make therapy a safe space to build new skills and strategies to achieve the fulfilling life you deserve.

I have experience working with young adults and adults of varied backgrounds and sociocultural identifications seeking therapy for trauma/PTSD, relationship issues, personality-related problems/concerns, depression, family conflict, anxiety, and identity disturbance.
I believe meaningful change occurs when client and psychotherapist co-create a space that fosters curiosity, empathy, and introspection. To transform psychic pain, we often have to look inwards at our ways of thinking, feeling, and relating (to both self and others). I strive to facilitate this process in the context of a supportive therapeutic relationship where those with whom I’m working feel safe and empowered. Through empathic listening, interpretation, and attunement to the “here and now” interactive process, I can help you resolve debilitating symptoms and impart greater meaning to your experiences and relationships.

Our world is full of expectations—should and should nots, and prescribed definitions to make us fit existing molds. When our experience doesn’t match this template, we may feel depressed, anxious, or fragmented. My training is informed by Narrative Therapy, Internal Family Systems, and Trauma Informed Care. With sensitivity to the intersections of race, ethnicity, orientation, gender, social class, and ability, I utilize a systemic lens to affirm, heal, and collaborate with you to find greater personal happiness and relationship satisfaction.

To others, or on paper, your life may look great, but you still feel unfulfilled. My clients are New Yorkers who want more, and often they feel uncomfortable sharing these insecurities with family or friends. Whether you are experiencing career challenges, struggling with family issues, or spending hours fruitlessly swiping on dating apps, you know you need to break the cycle. I provide a safe, empathetic space and a solutions-based approach to explore areas of concern. I also work with clients to identify the issues underlying a feeling of general malaise. Sometimes we just don’t know what we don’t know.

Making change takes intention and courage. Finding meaning in everyday life and living in a way that we yearn to is no small task! I work with adults who wish to create change and feel happier in their lives. This could mean issues surrounding transition into adulthood, dating and relationships, substance use, school and professional goals, life transitions, work/family balance, parenting, long term relationships with partners. I have expertise in supporting family members of a loved one struggling with addiction. I also have an interest in family members touched by adoption.

It’s deeply challenging to struggle with depression, anxiety, self-doubt, loneliness, or dissatisfaction. We might find ourselves feeling trapped in behavioral patterns or relationship dynamics that we’d like to change. I am a collaborative, compassionate therapist who works with adults, adolescents, and couples through these feelings and patterns, as well as relational wounds from early in life, questions of identity and purpose, complex family dynamics, low self-esteem, life transitions, or an overall feeling of being stuck. My practice is integrative and grounded in a relational, psychodynamic approach.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
