Life is hard. It did not come with a manual so we would know what to do when we are struggling. Knowing that there are people out there that can help is what makes therapy so important. I’ve had the pleasure of working with individuals, professionals, and families to address different mental health illnesses for the past five years. I believe that the best kind of therapy is one in which I work with you to identify your goals in life, utilize your strengths, and come up with a plan to make your best self a reality.

I have been a Therapist for over 40 years, supporting people through life's challenges and emotional and mental distress. I continue to be amazed by the daily changes I witness in my clients. People come in, driven by anxiety, fear, and shame, and learn the skills to begin to heal those parts of themselves. I work with clients who are tired of feeling unhappy and ready to start the process toward a life that feels good. Our Nervous System has a wonderful capacity for healing if given the right tools. You deserve to remember that you are more than enough!

If you are going through something and need some support, it would be my honor to try to help you out. What you might face now may have something to do with the past, and may also impact the future for the worse if something isn't done now, in the present. I would enjoy working with you to consider the past and future while also focusing on the present as much as possible in order to glean what is most within your control, what are your resources and options, your abilities and limitations, how do we honor and validate these while also encouraging some change, and how do we tolerate what is outside of our control, etc.

I love my work. You may want a quiet, protected space where you can think out loud - with the freedom to follow your thoughts to their own (surprising?) conclusions. Or you may want a more active interaction, a back-and-forth exchange to wrestle with difficult emotions and come out the other side feeling more settled and self-directed in your life. My first job is to meet you wherever you are - wanting help with an immediate crisis, or wishing to explore a past experience that continues to haunt you.

First of all, I just want to say that what you're doing right now is incredible. Everyone can benefit from therapy, but not everyone takes this step. I am here to help guide you along, in the way that best suits you, whether it's situational, generalized, or targeted therapy. You have the ability to be resilient, grow, and understand how your experiences have shaped you. If you're here, that means you're willing to do the work.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
