In certain circumstances family members may be able to join to assist in the collaboration and support.
I am a Licensed Clinical Addiction Specialist with 8 years of experience. I have worked with individuals at every stage of their addiction, including clients having difficulty recognizing they have a problem, knowing they have a problem but being unsure if they want to do something about it, actively making steps towards recovery, and being in recovery. I also have experience working with clients that use substances to cope with their anxiety, depression, trauma, self-esteem, and life changes (such as becoming a new parent, getting a new job, and losing a loved one).

Parenting has always been hard, but in today's world it is a lot more challenging. Between cultural influences that may not align with your family, ever present electronic devices and the seemingly infinite pressures to succeed (whatever that means), it can be difficult to raise your children in the ways that are important to you and them. And when the inevitable problems happen, some families hit a roadblock and feel like they can't move forward.

With 30 years of experience delivering psychological services, I can help you reduce distressing symptoms and navigate stressful situations. Whether this is your first time seeking professional help or you have tried psychotherapy in the past, I can help you identify short term and long term goals and begin achieving those goals quickly. I primarily use cognitive behavioral therapy and dialectical behavior therapy but will use other modalities as needed for your specific needs. I have successfully worked in hospitals and in the community, with men, women and adolescents.

I specialize in psychodynamic, existential, and family dynamics modalities.
Feeling stuck or uncertain about your purpose can lead you into a cycle of unhappiness & stagnation that feels impossible to break. While life is complex, you can learn to use this complexity to enhance your life instead of feeling trapped or overwhelmed by it. Together, we will understand any unhealthy patterns or cycles you're currently in; identify reasons you're feeling trapped or unmotivated both internally & in your relationships; & explore what changes are necessary to bring meaning & fulfillment into your life.

I’ve been working as a child & family therapist at least 10 years dealing with trauma and addiction. From there I branched out to work with adults. As a licensed Marriage & Family Therapist, I am passionate about healing and growth. I can work closely with you to provide a safe and confidential space for renewing and rewiring our brain. Are you struggling as a couple? We often overcompensate in our relationships often due to ignoring past hurts and fears, repeating the same patterns without even realizing it because it’s so familiar. And what we resist persists. Let’s work together to peel these layers to the beautiful real you.

During my 27 years of professional experience, 20-to-21 of those years has been conducting family therapy in the home in Pennsylvania and in North Carolina.
**Accepting New Clients** Life can be overwhelming, confusing, disappointing, and painful. Life can be very fast-paced, and it can be very difficult in knowing how to keep up. If you’re feeling depressed, or having difficulty with friendships/relationships/family/job, therapy can help. Are the experiences earlier in your life (childhood and/or early adulthood) impacting you now? Is it difficult to make healthy choices? Do you have anger issues? Do you struggle to share emotions that are natural and more vulnerable? Therapy can aid a person in making healthy choices, and improve your daily decision-making.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
