I pride myself on being a very “real” therapist. I am authentic and work hard to make you feel comfortable so that you can be your authentic self as well. I know if I’m not real, I can’t expect you to be either; and when you feel safe to be real with me, we can work on how that carries over to the rest of your life. We will unravel the complexities that make you exactly who you are and arrange each piece in a way that you take pride in, at a pace you are comfortable with. Being confident and calm in your body is your birthright; the journey to finding both begins with getting curious. Let's explore who you want to be and achieve it.

Dear potential client, It is exhausting trying to find a therapist that fits, even for us professionals that work in the industry, so I will try and make this easy for you because I want to make this easy. The clients that I experience a mutual bond and ability to work with normally come with a boatload of family issues. These clients appear for couples therapy, parent coaching and individual therapy for a variety of reasons but the complicated family history is the thread that connects them all. Many have anxiety and live in a heightened state most of the time. They feel less than and are ready for a change of life experience.

I use an integrative counseling approach, utilizing a strengths-based perspective grounded in both psychodynamic and Internal Family Systems (IFS) theories.
Once you make the decision to seek therapy, finding a therapist who "gets you" is the key element in starting the process. I focus on: eating disorders, trauma resolution / PTSD, adolescents in crisis, and elite athletes. As a psychodynamic therapist, my goal is to help clients uncover their true potential and lead a meaningful life; it's about having a life that becomes worth celebrating.

I am here for you as you are right now. I can imagine that right now things may not be the way you want them. Do you find yourself feeling unsettled? Feeling stuck and just can't seem to make important changes? Find that powerful emotions keep taking you off track from what you truly want? Have you had painful events occur and have noticed you're not quite the same anymore? ... For 10+ years I've been helping people build a life full of meaning. Which often means figuring out how to make important changes while also finding acceptance. This can mean resolving past painful events, boosting skills and/or resolving current problems.

I have a doctorate in Marriage and Family Therapy and am certified in EMDR and schema therapy, Internal Family Systems and neurofeedback.
What I have found in my 20 years of experience in practicing, teaching and publishing in the field of therapy is that I learn something new from every client that I treat. The goal of therapy, in my opinion, is to provide enough emotional safety for clients to examine their lives and create a narrative that allows for growth and connection.

I like to work with people who are internally motivated to learn and grow and desire to live meaningful and fulfilling lives. Whatever challenges they are facing I want them to know that working with me will at some point mean paying attention to and allowing themselves to feel their feelings. A conscious relationship with self is had through attending to the feelings we have about ourselves. Understanding feelings will be essential in generating improved self-awareness and a sense of personal integrity.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
