I have over 33 years experience treating depression and anxiety. I believe that depression/anxiety often has root causes from childhood abuse of a verbal, sexual or physical nature or perhaps regrets resulting from your own choices. I have successfully treated all kinds of PTSD, post abortion syndrome, sexual identity issues, anger, and grief through loss. I help married women to learn to live with difficult husbands when divorce is not their option. I help couples to resolve conflict and learn to live in love and respect.

I work with adults and families who are facing symptoms of anxiety, depression, behavioral issues or other barriers to emotional well-being. I will help you gain an understanding of what has led to your current situation, and then help you move toward solutions. With a working understanding of family systems, attachment science, personality disorders and trauma-informed practices, I especially enjoy working with people who are challenged in relationships with their parents, spouses or children. I am also passionate about helping adult clients become "cycle breakers" and gain relief from generational dysfunction.

Together, we can collaborate about what interventions will work best for your child and family.
Does your child struggle with managing emotions? Are lagging social skills, anxiety, or acting out behaviors interfering with daily life? Are you feeling overwhelmed and at a loss for how to help? After spending 18 years as an early childhood educator in a local public school district, I transitioned to clinical therapy in order to work with families more directly in support of social/emotional skills and mental health. Counseling is a great opportunity for exploration and growth.

I value a strong relationship with my clients and their caregivers and communication between the family and therapist.
Therapy is for everyone. Being a kid is a hard job and being a parent isn't easy either. It can be lonely, isolating and overwhelming when you or your child is struggling. We aren't meant to struggle alone. My passion is helping kids, adolescents, and their families learn how to navigate big feelings, stress and overwhelm. I have dedicated my career to supporting children and parents in their journey toward social and emotional well-being. Do you need help understanding the IEP, 504, or gifted process at school? During my 15 years as a school counselor I helped many families walk through these steps.

We use highly effective methods to help people overcome depression, anxiety, intrusive thoughts, compulsive behaviors, anger, and family problems.
If you are a believer, but you struggle with anxiety, or depression, or family problems...you are not alone. Only grace can save us, but in the meantime...many find it hard to access that grace. St. Barn is a non-profit organization offering Christian and Catholic counseling and life coaching. We are warm, accepting, and non-judgmental; we think that the best way to teach happiness is to model the principles we cherish. Even if you don't believe in God, the happiest life is a Catholic/Christian life. We help anyone who longs for true happiness to find the way.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
