Waitlist for new clients
My interests led me to complete graduate programs in family systems, psychology, coaching, leadership, ministry, inner healing, and spiritual direction.
I have a passion for individuals, couples and families who are experiencing the darkness of grief, the heartache of broken relationships, the discomfort and uncertainty that promotes overwhelming fear and anxiety; the trials of family life and the stress of difficult careers. I integrate my deep faith and trust in God's provision to help guide my work with my clients or for those whom I am supervising. My greatest desire is for you, my client, to know your great value and worth as you grow deeper in the own knowledge and wisdom of your calling and purpose in life. I invite you to learn more about me at my website: KareCounseling.com

Life is hard. Anger and sadness are natural responses to a world that can be unfair. Perhaps these feelings have strained your relationships with others, made it difficult to handle your day-to-day responsibilities, or damaged your self-esteem. When we learn to manage our dissatisfaction and form deeper connections to the people and things that bring us joy, life becomes exponentially more satisfying.

Being a human being can be quite challenging! There's a saying about the mind: 'the mind is a good servant, but a cruel taskmaster!' Many of us never learned how to calm our minds, limit our worrying, and self-soothe. Mindfulness training is one of the most researched methods for learning to do this. My work with individuals helps them to become skilled in this way, and to lessen the grip of attitudes and beliefs that limit us in significant ways. I work with individuals in this way, as well as with groups.

My goal is to create an atmosphere where every person that enters my office feels it is a safe place to learn and grow. I honor the unique strengths that each individual already possesses while challenging them to grow and develop in other areas. While I encourage people to stretch beyond their comfort zones, I respect and accept each person where they are at in their growth process. I have 19 years experience as a Psychotherapist. I work with children, adolescents, adults, and couples. When working with children, I feel it is important to become a team with their parents.

Choose the therapist, not the therapy. Quality mental health care is a real, human exchange; an opportunity to explore, strengthen, and change aspects of who you are. When psychotherapy is effective, the therapist and patient are creating openings, not closures. This is what heals.

I take a heartfelt, collaborative, and emboldening approach that is consent-based and feedback-oriented. When holding sacred space, I aim to demonstrate how to slow down and be present, access and anchor to our inner light, befriend our shadow and let go of unnecessary suffering, forgive ourselves for our past, learn how to unapologetically be and love ourselves here and now, believe in our worth and our potential, belong to ourselves, trust our intuitive wisdom, and have faith in the process of healing and transformative growth, personally and collectively. Prioritizing BIPOC, 2SLGBTQ+, fat, 1st gen, and neurodivergent identities.

Are you experiencing feelings of: anxiety, depression, trauma, reduced self-esteem, relationship concerns, couples concerns or lifestyle transitions? You are a high achiever with perfectionism tendencies and often find yourself feeling overwhelmed by taking care of others and putting yourself last. You are excellent at your job and are perceived as having everything together however, are inwardly falling short and wanting so much more out of your life. You feel weary after another long day and yearn to enjoy life the way others seem to by feeling carefree and happy however, are uncertain where to start.

Welcome! I believe that one of the essential ingredients of change and transformative psychotherapy is the relationship between the individual and the therapist. Feeling understood and comfortable only helps reduce one's symptoms, encouraging self-acceptance, but also leads toward deeper work which promotes lasting change and a deeper experience of one's whole self.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
