Over my forty-five year career I have worked with many different people of every race, age, and problem type. I listen with a supportive, trained ear, and help my clients find the best coping strategies that will enable them to be happier. Even if only one person is in my office, I see that person as part of their family system, and help them make positive changes that will increase good feelings and reduce conflict. Nearly everyone goes through a rough period in their life when psychotherapy could be helpful for getting back on track.

As a former hospice social worker, I have extensive experience in working with medical struggles, bereavement, family dynamics and struggles connected to caregiving, aging, dementia and chronic illness.
I offer short term, brief therapy to support individuals, couples and families in moving forward in some way. Brief therapy typically focuses on solutions rather than problems. The aim is to emphasize strengths and to work collaboratively to figure out alternatives for what the future might look like. I strive to offer a warm, compassionate and non-judgmental environment that allows clients to feel safe to genuinely express themselves and consider new possibilities.

We all deserve relief from our burdens. Beginning therapy takes motivation, courage and the desire to change and grow. Most of us wouldn’t do it unless we need real help. I create a safe and supportive environment for you to explore how to improve your quality of life and together, we explore ways for you to heal and grow. I work with clients facing a variety of challenges including family of origin stressors, life transitions, trauma, anxiety, and depression. I am a queer affirming therapist.

I specialize in Internal Family Systems and work with adults, children, and couples.
Wouldn't it be great if your therapist didn't just listen to you, but helped YOU listen to yourself? You know, that Self that gets lost among all your responsibilities and commitments and social media and stress and all the things you tell yourself...all that stuff that makes you feel fragmented and overwhelmed. I excel at helping people discover themselves amidst the noise of life. Understanding yourself is the key to getting "unstuck" and moving towards healing, success, and growth.

Raising children is a fulfilling and puzzling part of our lives. From that first day we meet our new baby, a world of hope, wishes, and new possibilities begin. Parents don't leave the hospital with a guidebook on how to address every bump and hurdle along the way. Children are unique, complex, and exciting. Sometimes however, they also need extra support. In my therapeutic work, I partner with you to understand the needs of your family and that of your child. Together we explore the concerns which bring you into my office - whether trauma, adjustment, anxiety, school related concerns, or behavioral challenges.

Utilizing a strength-based focus, I integrate techniques from various theories and modalities such as: cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, internal family systems, mindfulness, attachment and narrative therapy.
Finding a good therapist is like shopping for a good pair of shoes. Why, you might ask. It’s all about the fit. You usually choose shoes that are most comfortable and suit you best. Whether you may have gone to a therapist before or have never been – whether you had awful experiences in the past or none at all. Successful therapy is about finding the right fit; about finding a relationship where you have a safe space to bring any and all of your feelings and challenges.

When starting my Private Practice years ago, I felt it was very important to create a therapeutic space where my Clients would feel comfortable, listened to and understood. A place where they could be themselves, speak openly and honestly and gain insight and perspective. My approach has always been genuine and straight forward, with a strong touch of honesty, encouragement and optimism. Relationships, family life and parenting can be so stressful and feel very overwhelming at times. I look forward to talking with you to determine how I can best help and support you and your family.

I have a unique integrative approach incorporating CBT, Somatic work, IFS, Bowen Family Systems, Relational Life Therapy, Imago, and more.
No Crunch Counseling: Clear, Grounded, Connected. I provide a comfortable setting to understand what you are experiencing and learn skills to move forward. I help individuals, couples, and families gain clarity and connection. Relationships have the potential for love, understanding, and security. When this is not present, the effects can be painful and isolating. Our relationship with ourselves is the same way. We sometimes feel frustrated, stuck, or overwhelmed. With the right tools, we can have clear thinking, manage challenges, and feel content.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
