I have worked with families in addressing the disconnect within family dynamics.
Sometimes life can be challenging and coping with stress starts with being able to identify your triggers and determine what works for you. I have a Master’s Degree in Social Work from Wheelock College and experience with children and families from diverse backgrounds.

Hello! My name is Wendy and would like to meet you. Are you struggling with grief and loss? Are you caring for an older adult in your life, or have a chronically ill family member, and don't know where to turn? Are you an older adult yourself, and looking for someone who might understand what you are going through? Do you struggle with infertility issues? Does Huntington's Disease affect your family? Do you feel your eating behaviors are out of control, or struggle with weight issues? Do you just need some extra support at this time, due to life's stressors?

Grounded and raised in a Chinese immigrant and Vietnamese refugee family, my roots and experiences have amplified my passion to address care in communities of color. The complexities of juggling responsibilities as a student, employee, caregiver. etc., can be super exhausting and I'm here to say that I see you! You are more than just a person embedded in an institution and your emotionality is cared for.

Depression, anxiety, trouble concentrating, behavioral problems, insomnia, interpersonal conflict, low self-esteem, and flashbacks are just a few symptoms that can be caused by underlying trauma. Most of us have dealt with trauma in our lives. A traumatic event could be one isolated incident, such as a car accident or death in the family. Some individuals have experienced pervasive trauma, such as an ongoing medical procedure or family discord. At Robinson Counseling and Wellness, LLC we have clinicians who been trained to effectively resolve the symptoms of trauma and provide a safe environment for healing.

Loss of birth family/culture, identity/connection.
Hi! My name is Maya Rogers-Bursen, and I am a licensed mental health counselor and art therapist. I was adopted from India when I was six months old and my narrative has shaped the work I love doing with adoptees, and families in the adoption constellation. I am a transracial adoptee with a private practice focused in supporting those navigate the ups and downs of the adoption journey. I named my practice Chandani Post Adoption Counseling - Chandani is my birth name. It means moonlight in Hindi, a place I often look towards when I think about birth family (feel free to read more of my story on my website – Chandanicounseling.com)

I also use Internal Family Systems (IFS).
I bring space for my clients through a warm, welcoming, and non-judgemental as well as unconditional lens. Sometimes it can be figuring out your true identity and what drives you to do the things you do, other times it can be day to day issues. My goal in therapy is to provide a safe space to my clients to feel heard and understood. It's hard in everyday life to overcome the challenges that our mind creates, and I hope to help clients work through the issues that comes with being human and living in today's society.

I invite you to bring with you your current resources, social location, and values that you have inherited from your family of origin, ancestors, and communities.
I believe the greatest gift a therapist can offer is full presence with a compassionate ear. Many clients seek therapy because something that was working for them is no longer working. Maybe you feel stuck, unseen, unheard, anxious, angry, or "enmeshed" in your interpersonal relationships. Maybe there's estrangement or you are contemplating cutoff. Maybe your values are being tested by your workplace. You have been here for a long time, but believed you needed permission to feel this way: "Just another year," "just a little more." In our therapy space, even if you take your shoes off at the door, you can bring your whole self.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
