Following graduation from St. Louis University in 1995 my focus became helping people attain higher levels of happiness and satisfaction in their relationships and lives. In more than two decades in the field of mental health, I have served as a crisis counselor, clinical supervisor of a substance abuse program, an ER social worker, a forensic social worker - and currently as a clinical therapist. In addition, I have more than a decade of experience as an adjunct professor teaching Psychology, Sociology, Social Diversity and Marriage & Family. I believe this has given me a unique insight into the many issues that people struggle with - and an ability to help from a variety of perspectives.

For over 30 years, I have been committed to providing hope and healing to people of all ages. Folks come to therapy for a variety of reasons but generally are hoping to develop a relationship in which they can show up and talk about what really matters to them. I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor and I have lived my entire life in the Metro-east area. I have a profound connection to helping people with emotional and/or psychological issues. Consequently, I received my bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville and obtained a dual masters from Lindenwood University in both Clinical and School counseling. My expertise include depression, self-esteem, grief, anxiety, separation anxiety, children, adolescents, Oppositional Defiant Disorder, ADHD parenting and family issues. I am also a Certified First Responder Counselor.

I have personal and professional experience with complex trauma which has allowed me to gain a deeper understanding of trauma and the human experience. I have experience working with Spiritual Trauma survivors, Complex trauma, First Responders, Veterans, LGBTQIA2S+ community, and la comunidad Latina.

I understand that the choice of a therapist is an important one. The trust that is built between the client and the therapist is important in determining how helpful therapy can be. I work hard to create a supportive therapeutic environment. I believe in providing a safe, non-judgmental atmosphere and encourage people to talk at a pace that is comfortable for them. I believe that an individual has the ability to learn to do things differently and feel better. I use techniques associated with the widely recognized cognitive behavioral theory as well as those from family system's theory.

My approach to therapy is client-centered and tailored to the indivicual needs of each client. In my 25+ years of counseling I have helped clients cope with with problems such as depression, anxiety, marital and relationship issuses, grief and loss, and unresolved family-of-origin issues. I also teach relaxation exercises and visualization, and use a "theratapper" to help clients reprocess traumatic experiences.

Professional Counseling Solutions is a program of Madison County Catholic Charities. Our two offices are located in Alton and Granite City. We accept insurance. We also offer a sliding fee scale for services based on household income. Our therapeutic team includes LCPC and LCSW therapists.

My passion and focus in therapy is treating individuals and family systems with complex and developmental trauma. This includes survivors of childhood trauma and caregivers who are navigating the complexities of foster care, adoption, and/or parenting with their own history of childhood trauma. I use a few different therapeutic modalities to best fit my client’s needs, and as a board certified art therapist I like to utilize art making and creativity in my sessions to deepen client’s understanding and build trust.

I completed my undergraduate degree in Social Work from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville and my Master's degree in Social Work, with an emphasis in Family Systems Theory, at Saint Louis University. Hello, I'm Sandra Becker-Warden. I have provided counseling as a clinical social worker for over 30 years. My practice, Family Life Consultants, Inc. offers services in two locations and their respective surrounding areas; Collinsville, IL, and Lake Ozark, MO. I particularly enjoy working with families and couples, I also specialize in custody mediation, body image issues and eating disorders Ages include toddlers through seniors. I believe in involving the individual's support system in the treatment process - ie. family, school, work, when appropriate. This approach allows the support systems to realize their part in the individual's emotional health.

I treat adults with relationship issues that can include couple/marital concerns, coparenting concerns, individual issues with coworkers, friends, and family. I work well with clients experiencing anxiety and depression. I also treat adolescents individually, and with their parents, who are having difficulty with the adjustment to the teen years or young adulthood; have diagnosed depression or anxiety; relationship problems with friends, peers, or romantic partners. Ideally these clients are interested in receiving help and are motivated to make changes.
