Welcome! My name is Sharon Walker. As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, I have a passion for walking alongside others who are struggling with challenges that life can bring for us all. My goal is to offer you a safe and non-judgmental space where you can begin to heal and achieve your goals. Many of the clients I serve present with Anxiety, Trauma-Related Outcomes, and Family/Relationship Issues as primary concerns. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is my favorite method of approach. I also favor Eclectic Therapy, which allows me to integrate multiple approaches and tailor them to your unique needs.

In working with couples, I practice strategic family therapy, to help clients learn specific positive interventions to communicate better, resolve issues more quickly and calmly, and find joy in our relationships again.
The best compliment I ever received was that I’m the “human embodiment of a cup of tea.” I bring that same warmth, compassion, and calm to every counseling relationship.

I work well with clients undergoing a variety of mood and anxiety disorders. I approach treatment in an individual and personalized manner utilizing anxiety, panic and trauma reducing, depth therapy. The most appropriate client is one who is open to finding their answers and healing in a calm, self-paced environment free of discrimination and judgment. All clients have the ability to eventually become their own therapist and I am prepared and eager to help you find the strengths that are sometimes very difficult to see.

Hello! My name is Thomas Youngberg, and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I have worked in mental health, at some capacity, for over 17 years, and have officially been state-licensed since 2016. My biggest passion is working with individuals, especially those with trauma (PTSD), so that they may return to their optimal living level of life. I strongly believe that we all inherently have the capability of change! Change is difficult, scary, and most of all, necessary to move on from whatever mental health barriers are keeping you from achieving all that you would like in life.

"Do you feel that something needs to change? Do you feel worn out from coping with grief or trauma? It can be painful when you are going through this, and it's common to experience other problems like anxiety and depression. Unfortunately, a lot of people develop strategies to avoidance for these problems. In reality, though, this can result in a buildup of repressed emotions, worsening issues long-term and making symptoms more frequent. My focus is on EMDR and Brainspotting. These practices help people’s brains to reprocess specific memories in the proper ways.

The goal of counseling is to help people make meaningful change to improve overall well-being. A good therapist should meet you where you are at, help you identify stressors, then work with you to develop the coping skills that result in positive change. Confronting suffering can be difficult, whether that suffering come in the form of anxiety or depression, relationship struggles, substance abuse, or the stresses and worries of daily life.

Life can be undeniably difficult at times (increasingly so over the last few years). Sometimes, it becomes too much, and we need help to navigate and walk through those times and regulate those emotions/feelings. A need for a calm, confidential, non-judgmental space to express where you are and where you want to be. A place to find solutions, insight, and perspective. A place to learn some techniques to attain your desired health and life goals.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
