I am a counselor with a master's degree in mental health counseling and a certificate in sex therapy.

Dr. Poppy’s approach to psychotherapy develops client-centered foundations of empathy, acceptance, and support with clients to facilitate cognitive-behavioral and family systems therapies. His assessment interest areas include attention, mood, personality, developmental disorders, autism, and learning. His interest areas for therapy include child behavior, depression, anxiety, eating disorders, trauma, life adjustment, and couple and family relationships. Ghada works with you to better your sense of awareness and focuses on bettering relationships and connections in your life. She is certified in II LEND (Leadership and Education in Neurodevelopmental Disabilities). Specializing in major mental health disorders such as depression, anxiety, and ADHD. Ghada has extensive experience with family/children therapy.

As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, I firmly believe that therapy services should be available and affordable to all who need them. I use individual, couples, family, and group therapy. I am also the Clinical Supervisor at Compass. As a graduate of the University of Illinois with 25 years of experience as a therapist, I am currently serving as a clinician working with a broad spectrum of clients with a non-judgmental and sex-positive attitude. Among my areas of expertise are LGBTQIA+ clientele (specifically with transfolks), abuse and trauma, depression and anxiety, and anger management. I have also worked with polyamorous folk.

In more than two decades in the field of mental health, I have served as a crisis counselor, clinical supervisor of a substance abuse program, an ER social worker, a forensic social worker - and currently as a clinical therapist. The mission of Starfish Family Counseling is best described through a story. The Starfish Story tells of a child walking along a beach after a terrible storm which washed up thousands of starfish onto the beach. The child is throwing starfish back into the water, when someone admonishes the child that they cannot save them all, cannot really make a difference. The child responds by picking up another starfish and saying "it makes a difference to this one."
