One of the best feelings we can experience is to feel understood. I help my clients better understand themselves and others because when we understand why people behave, think, and feel the way they do we are able to form stronger connections. I have over 10 years working with children, adolescents, and adults struggling with various mental health concerns. i also help strengthen connections through couples and family therapy. If you would like to see my past job experiences in the field feel free to view my LinkedIn profile.

Hello and welcome to my practice. Asking for help is not easy, so I am so glad you are here! Therapists are not a one size fits all and finding the right fit for you, your family, and/or your child is so important for therapy to be successful. My approach with clients is always collaborative, genuine and warm, and I use both empathy and humor. I am client-centered, strengths based, and solutions focused. I utilize multiple therapeutic modalities to correspond with the needs of each individual client, meeting them where they are at.

The complexities of human nature is something that many of us grapple with. Therapy, although seemingly scary, intimidating and overwhelming at first, can lead to change, growth and a high degree of satisfaction when an individual is willing to look at themselves in a new light. I believe in treatment that is collaborative which encompasses a conversational dynamic. I provide individual, family and couples sessions for various issues, some of which include; anxiety, depression, self-esteem issues, communication problems, life transitions, issues with interpersonal relationships, work stress and other stress related issues.

We will work together to prioritize your specific challenges, focus on increasing positive family interactions and balancing each family member's needs.
Are you struggling with supporting a child with special needs, managing your child’s emotional or behavioral difficulties, or navigating the transition to parenthood? If so, you are not alone - I am here to help you. Parenting can be a very rewarding experience, but it also brings many challenges that can lead to one feeling overwhelmed, anxious and even depressed. My philosophy is that parents and families are usually doing the best they can, however challenging circumstances often require professional guidance. I provide families with a warm, supportive and confidential space in which to discuss problems and find solutions.

As a therapist, I feel strongly that adolescents, children and their parents, can overcome obstacles and increase life satisfaction. Many of the problems, both social and academic, that children, adolescents and young adults face today stem from difficulties managing negative emotions, namely anxiety and sadness. These difficulties shape behavior in a variety of ways; temper tantrums and moodiness, low tolerance for frustration/avoidance, hyperactivity, limited attention, poor social skills, low self-esteem, defiance of authority, lack of direction and motivation, substance use, and a decline in academics.

I provide useful and in-depth psychotherapy in Connecticut, New York, Oregon, and California. People are in a constant developmental process, whereby symptoms are signs of ongoing struggles to sort through past experiences while organizing oneself in present living. Depression, anxiety, & personality traits are markers of this process. Therapy with me would seek to aid in your understanding of how & why you live the way you do, and hopefully lead to change. My hope is that we can find a way for you to live more fully and for problems to be comprehensively understood, formulated and articulated, and resolved in a sustained way.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
