My passion for helping families and individuals heal led me to specialize in Medical Family Therapy and to also receive advance training in EMDR therapy. Sometimes life overwhelms us, but it doesn’t have to. I believe we all have the potential to control the way we react to situations we face.

My therapeutic experience has extended over 20 years providing individual, family and group counseling to adolescents and adults.
Life often presents us with challenges that can make it difficult to find a way back to overall wellness. People enter therapy for a variety of reasons. Maybe you have lost a loved one or a life transition has caused anxiety and stress. Perhaps you or someone you know is struggling with addiction. You might be having a difficult time with self-confidence or depression. Developing skills to find healthy balance within ourselves and with others is needed for stability and happiness.

Working with a diverse client population, I provide a brave and grounded space for clients who are curious about new possibilities for their lives. I offer individual, relationship, and family therapy for ages 4+. Rooted in experiential and narrative philosophies, I collaboratively explore the ways clients get stuck in patterns that no longer serve them. No matter how trapped clients may feel in the cycles they find themselves in, there is always a way to break free and to consciously create new cycles. I am here to help clients shed light on those old patterns, explore how they came to be, and step into a new way of being.

I love working with college folks, prenatal/postnatal experiences, and relationship and family issues.
“A great deal of the chaos in the world occurs because people don't appreciate themselves.” Chogyam Trungpa. Living is becoming a daunting task in this age of technology, inflation and social media. Seemingly more overwhelming by the second as we navigate a million responsibilities in such a fast-paced and individuated society. I have come to believe that therapy provides us with a space to breath. A sacred home to be with ourselves honestly, to be held in loving kindness, to repair old wounds, and gain self-awareness. My therapeutic approach is highly relational with an intention to reunite you with your authentic self.

I use a contemporary psychodynamic approach and have been trained in many therapeutic models including ego psychology, solution focused, motivational interviewing, acceptance and commitment therapy, EMDR (eye movement desensitization and reprocessing), cognitive behavioral therapy, and family systems.
My approach is client-centered, meaning I start where you are and work collaboratively to find a way forward. Perhaps that means finding a solution to a specific problem, or breaking patterns of behavior, or simply developing a better understanding of yourself.

In her therapeutic work, she uses her training in trauma-informed art therapy, trauma-focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, grief counseling, and family attachment to inform how she is able to relate to the person who sits in front of her.
Ever since high school, Chelsea has been passionate about facilitating the healing power of creative expression via art therapy. Art therapy is a mental health profession in which the creative process is used as the avenue for the client and the art therapist to build a therapeutic relationship. Through art therapy, the client can express themselves and gain new insight about the self and their place in the world. Chelsea has interned at a school, residential treatment facility, and Veterans Affairs Medical Center, and has worked in community mental health with an intensive outpatient/rehabilitation program, and private practice.

Some of my specialties include individual therapy with teens and adults, therapy with domestic violence victims, family therapy, co-parenting therapy, and working with LGBTQIA populations.
I exclusively offer weekend appointments in order to make therapy more accessible to busy professionals and families. You might find you are reliving the same patterns and cycles over and over again in your family, your relationships, your career, or your behaviors. Likely this has caused worry, hurt, anger, or feelings of sadness. Through exploring these patterns or themes, we will work together to gain insight and understand their cause. New skills and strategies will be gained as well, so that you, or your family, can move forward towards happiness.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
