Sometimes we find that we are not existing in life the way we hope too. Whether it be in our home life, our schooling or jobs, our relationships, or the world as a whole, sometimes life difficulties feel too overwhelming to work through alone. If you are a teen or young adult struggling to exist well in the world, I’m here to help you navigate that! Managing anxiety or depression, overcoming trauma, healing family or religious hurts, or just developing your identity during these formative years are all things I’d love to help you walk and work through.

Using the Enneagram, Internal Family Systems (IFS), DBT and EMDR helps clients with increasing understanding of thought patterns and barriers that get in the way of healthy living and relationships.
Working with children, teens, adults and families in the clinical setting for the past 20 years has given me the confidence to know that we can help you reach your goals. When clients come to session with the motivation to make changes we will see progress. If we encounter resistance, hesitancy or barriers there are interventions to help us work through those challenges of which we may not even be conscious.

Is life currently a struggle? Do you feel anxious, sad or lonely? Do things that use to bring you joy no longer provide you happiness? Is your mental health negatively affecting your relationships, job or family life? Today we face more stressors in our lives than we ever have before. COVID 19, changes in the economy, daily uncertainty has made our lives more challenging than ever. If you feel like old coping skills are no longer working and that support from friends and family isn't enough then it's time to get outside support. Finding someone who will support you during hard times in a non-judgmental, safe space can be helpful.

If you are miserable in your relationship(s), whether with loved ones or yourself, I can help. Folks who benefit most from my help are at a life transition point or at the brink of a new growth stage: in themselves, in their primary relationship, in their family, or in their career – sometimes all at once. Often times these folks feel held back by one key factor, and that key factor is either a challenge in self-knowledge and self-acceptance or an area of past trauma that is unresolved and is therefore blocked from normal growth.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
