Are you thinking of starting therapy because you struggle with romantic, family or work relationships? Do you find it challenging to address your own needs? People who seek out my services often know these issues exist but want support with moving from knowing to healing and growing. They don't want a therapist who nods their head. They want a therapist who empathizes, provides insights and humbly provides alternative ways to exist in this world.

About me: I am a Certified EMDR Therapist, Supervisor, Professor and Family Therapist.
As a long time therapist, I know that it usually takes a lot of courage to reach out for help & it can feel so vulnerable to take this first step. I honor this stepping out of your comfort zone into the unfamiliar, so I create felt safety & a close therapeutic connection from the get go. I bring compassion into all my sessions, valuing the client's pace and sense of security as highly as I value my knowledge and experience. It is my belief that it is only in this balance that therapeutic healing can occur.

EFT Couples Counseling, Individual, and Family Counseling.
My passion is working with couples to positively impact their relationship and find new ways of communicating with each other, and I have found that using Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy is an exceptional tool to address attachment in family systems. I have also been fortunate enough to expand my experience into addressing substance use and the impact that it can have on not only the individual, but the entire family. Regardless of who is part of the family system, my goal is to help you reach your goals.

This includes growing stronger friendships and intimate relationships, strengthening or repairing family relationships, becoming more comfortable spending time with yourself, and feeling more connected in your community.
I work with adults struggling with relationship issues, addiction, depression, anxiety, and PTSD. Many of my clients have become very successful despite difficult childhoods and are curious how therapy can help to reduce their suffering, heal from past traumas, and learn healthier ways of attachment. I use elements of EMDR therapy in my approach. I am kink allied and sex positive. I invite you to come as you are. I will respect, support, and encourage you during our time in therapy.

I have a unique understanding of a multitude of recovery programs including the 12 step process. I have strived to learn how best to integrate these concepts which have helped so many with psychotherapy and marriage and family therapy. I have spent the last seven years working with individuals and families suffering from substance abuse, behavioral health, anger, and severe mental health issues. By enlisting and encouraging the partners, parents and siblings into the therapeutic process, the weave of all family members are able to find their voice and begin to work on healthy family dynamics.

I primarily draw on mindfulness, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Internal Family Systems .
I take a holistic and contextual approach to therapy. I want to know your sources of pain - but I also want to know what you value, what has shaped you, where you draw inspiration, your beliefs, and how you feel in your own body. We’ll peel back layers, we'll process distress, and we'll build practical tools to manage the challenges you're facing. Ultimately, we’ll build a more authentic, empowered sense of self. If something is no longer serving you, let’s figure out how to change it. My areas of focus include sexuality, sex, identity, anxiety, depression, relationships, and life-transitions.

As a Marriage and Family Therapist, I enjoy working with all populations, from individuals, couples, and families – no matter how you define these systems.
I believe we all deserve the opportunity to tell our story and have our story heard in an environment free of judgment. We are all unique in our own way, and I look forward to learning and listening to your story to better understand and support your needs, pains, and dreams. My theoretical approach combines narrative therapy and solution-focused therapy to encourage you to become the expert in your story while discovering a better sense of self-connection in a disconnected world.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
