I strive to understand my clients in all of their environments. I use the lens of family therapy. My approach is strength-based, trauma-informed and built upon establishing a trusting relationship. I work with caregiver(s) and their child(ren) to help resolve issues within the home and/or school setting. I am open to working with the caregiver alone to support in parenting and/or with the child/teen to discover solutions which address obstacles to social emotional functioning such as anxiety, depression, ADHD, and/or trauma through talk therapy (therapy dog optional), interactive social emotional learning, bibliotherapy, CBT & DBT.

In addition to individual therapy, I provide couples and family therapy, as well as pre-martial counseling.
I believe that emotional symptoms, such as anxiety and depression, are ways that our bodies and minds communicate with us. Through really listening and being present with you, I will help you explore these messages, gain a deeper understanding of yourself, and heal old wounds. This process is profound in creating change, allowing you to experience more peace within yourself, live with more passion and presence, and improve the quality of your relationships. I am a licensed psychologist with a doctorate in clinical psychology. I have experience working with individuals of all ages who are seeking to live more full and engaged lives.

My experience in providing group services, play therapy, and individual/family interventions has and continues to focus on promoting resiliency and preventing further disruption to individuals and family systems inclusive of addressing symptoms of anxiety, depression, reactions to trauma, and suicidality.

I offer individual, couples and family therapy.
I work with clients to explore areas that need to change or improve. I believe we all carry our wisdom and answers, however, sometimes due to trauma or patterns we become stuck in what we do. One may know their behavior is unhealthy, however, may not know how to change. Finding the answers becomes the process of therapy.

I utilize EMDR, DBT, Internal Family Systems, EFT, and Values based exploration in my work with individuals.
Are you in a relationship and feeling trapped in communication patterns that leave you feeling disconnected, alone, or unheard? Are you an individual who is feeling challenged with anxiety, your relationship with food, your relationships in general, or "getting past your past". I work regularly with couples and individuals to find healing within themselves and within their relationships, to learn ways to regulate emotion in order to experience life with more joy, and to feel more able to organize around their emotion vs. feel overwhelmed from it. I am currently working online via video with clients. I see clients in person at times.

Looking at your personal story in the larger context of your family, your ancestry, and the times and culture we live in, you will come to understand your suffering and your particular wounds in ways that uncover their deeper meaning and lead to lasting transformation.
You are unique in the challenges you face and in your gifts. Whether you suffer from anxiety, depression, an unrelenting sense of despair, low self-esteem, are hyper-critical of yourself, feel disconnected from life or joyless, are frustrated with work or school, have problems in your relationships, or suffer with PTSD, your experience is particular to you. I will help you discover the underlying dynamics of your symptoms and patterns in ways that allow you to transform them. Rather than merely "fixing" a problem or “fixing” yourself, you will learn how to listen to and tend what troubles you.

If you're feeling stuck in your life or relationships, change is possible. Sometimes, even though there is much love in a relationship, people can't connect. Distance and resentment can grow, making loving and healthy communication impossible. Families can have similar dynamics, people don't feel heard, understood, or valued. These most important connections can break down and the family doesn't function in a way that works for everyone. These issues can intesify in the face of trauma, divorce, or the diagnosis of special needs in children. In these intense times people need support so they can grow, individually and together.

* I am no longer accepting new clients* I believe the most profound change occurs within relationships. Whether that be the therapeutic relationship, a relationship with yourself, a partner, parent, child, or family member, relationships in all their forms have the ability to foster new ways we see and interact with ourselves and others. While relationships impact us, they do not define us. Each individual carries the strength within them to make the change they wish to see.

Working to improve relationships, sex, intimacy, sexuality and gender identity to enhance quality of life. I strive to create a safe and accepting space to explore and discover an authentic lifestyle within these aspects of life. Through a sex positive approach, the goal is to reduce shame and enhance authenticity. Beginning with the exploration with relationship to self, my clients are able to enhance their relationships with others. Challenging the messages, beliefs and values family and societal has created allows for clients to learn and create their own narrative for the life that aligns with them.

Waitlist for new clients
I work with a variety of topics including depression, anxiety, trauma, life transitions/adjustments, and interpersonal/relationship/family concerns.
I work with you to define and achieve the life YOU want, whether that is managing symptoms, solving a problem, or simply living a more fulfilling life and being your authentic self. I believe a good therapist, like a good friend, doesn’t just tell you what you want to hear. I challenge my clients to see new perspectives, notice their blind spots, and find new insights. My theoretical orientation draws primarily from humanism and existentialism. I draw techniques from MI, CBT, and DBT. I would describe my style as cognitive-based and intellectual, with no “BS” and a healthy dose of humor!

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
