Are you looking for a therapist who can help your child or teenager learn to manage their emotions instead of engaging in all-out temper tantrums? As a caregiver, are you wondering what the best approach is to manage these difficult moments and to deepen your relationship with your child at the same time? In a therapy session with me, your child will learn techniques to encourage self-awareness in order to prevent acting-out behavior and you will learn strategies to support your child on this journey. A typical therapy session may include play therapy, yoga poses, breathwork, and/or creative arts.

Dr. Larson-Konar believes: people have a tremendous capacity for inner strength, but sometimes we all need help accessing that strength. Therapy is a collaboration. Dr. Larson-Konar approaches therapy from a feminist and anti-racist stance, and he prizes the therapeutic relationship, ensuring that it's safe, warm, caring, and empowering. He strives to balance support with challenge. Therapy is hard work, but it's also fun, funny, and life-affirming.

Schedule through my website in bio! My journey as therapist started long before I decided that I wanted to pursue a career in psychology. One thing that I have always had the knack for, Is seeing the potential in people and situations. If you ask any of my current clients, the reason they keep on coming back is because of my uncanny ability to see the beyond the outdated narratives into a whole new realm of possibilities. It brings me great joy to see people grow past their trauma and live to their full potential. As a therapist, the most powerful gift that I have to offer is the ability to see beyond what is and what appears to be.

My goal as a therapist is to create a supportive environment for folks to explore their gender and sexuality. Perhaps you identify as queer, bisexual, lesbian, gay, pansexual, asexual, trans, nonbinary, agender, poly, kinky, something else, everything, and/or nothing at all. You deserve to have a space where you can learn more about the different parts of yourself without judgment. As a queer person who has sought out therapy myself, I know how challenging it can be to find an affirming therapist. Even if your identity isn’t central to your therapeutic goals, know that every part of you will be welcome in our work.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
