Fulfilling, secure relationships are attainable and take consistent, dedicated work. My job is to be the training wheels on your metaphorical bicycle and assist you in launching towards your goals. Whether you are coming in looking to improve communication skills or on the brink of a breakup or a family meltdown, I strongly believe it is never too early or too late to start therapy. These same sentiments also apply to my work in assessments. Through all of my testing, I’m looking for strengths.

In our sessions, I’ll help you work on feeling more present in the moment, finding stability and escape in a toxic relationship or family situation, to be more in control of your anxiety and communication, and to stop putting others needs before your own with better boundaries.
I want to help bring authenticity and change to your life the way you want it to. I'm Nick (they/them), and I’m dual licensed in two states working with FL and CO clients. I work with queer issues and gender exploration/transition, codependency and relationship problems, anxiety disorders, neurodivergence, chronic illness, trauma, and grief/loss. I also work with non-monogamous/poly clients. I’m here to provide a safe and respectful place for you to be seen and heard. You're not alone and you don’t have to keep telling yourself everything is “fine” or normal in your life - let's find a better "normal" for you to live.

Transformations often feel isolating and overwhelming; life-affirming changes may create distance from the people you care about. When we question ourselves, its hard to know where to turn for perspective. I love working with folks who see themselves as outside the gender and relationship mainstream; it takes a lot of courage and can also be painful to navigate. We can dig into what your identity means to you and how to embody it while building a life worth showing up for.

I specialize in a type of therapy that believes your problem or issue is external to you as a person. It lives in the world, not in you. In my practice we put that problem out in front of us, then step back and examine it. Looking at the problem as separate from you helps you understand it better and allows you to you experience yourself in new ways. I use EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing) and Narrative therapy to treat survivors of trauma, whether that is Big “T” (profound and debilitating) or Little “t” (smaller “everyday” or less pronounced events).

I will offer each new client a free initial consultation. My philosophy from working as a psychologist for over 25 years is that the relationship and trust between a client and therapist is an extremely important part of the healing process. You will find that I am a very good listener. My clients describe me as warm, compassionate, clear, caring, experienced and they have found our work together extremely helpful in their lives. I work Saturdays and Thursday (later afternoon and evening).

We all get stuck in ruts with relationships, our routines, and at work. Therapy is a space to find the strength to overcome the patterns you are tired of dealing with and reconnect with your values. I work with individuals, teens, couples, and any relationship arrangement. I typically start therapy by working through some of the more burdensome symptoms you are struggling with to give you some relief and tools immediately. From there, our work will get deeper and tackle changing long-standing patterns. If you are ready to work on yourself this way, I hope to hear from you.

I work with those who believe that relationships (with ourselves, others, and our environments) are what make life meaningful. If you’re struggling to feel fulfilled or consistent, I can provide support while we work to identify and address the contributing issues. I have a special interest in the intersection between ADHD and self-esteem issues, but I work with individuals, couples, and families around a variety of issues. Maybe you are asking yourself; some of these questions. - How can I stop worrying so much? How can I find hope again? How can I develop the relationships and connections I truly desire? How can I understand and manage big emotions and triggers? How can I get unstuck and move forward in the ways I want to in my life? How can I fill this big emptiness I feel and find joy again?

I I look forward to getting the chance to connect with you to see if I would be the right support for you and/or your child and family.

I specialize in work with LGBTQ+ youth and adults, in grief and loss, end of life concerns, identity development, trauma, anxiety, depression, chronic illness, and psychosocial oncology. I work with adults, children, and adolescents for psychotherapy and provide assessments for autism, learning disabilities and social/emotional concerns.

I work from orientations including Family Systems, Jungian theory, CBT, and mindfulness.
If you're reading this I want to encourage you to keep the momentum! Reaching out to a therapist is one of the most difficult and hopeful things you can do and it’s worth it! I work with anxiety, depression, addictions and relationship issues. I've been a psychologist for over 35 years and I still love the work. My approach incorporates a spiritual orientation; this is due to working with people who are in recovery, and my own journey. Spiritual based psychotherapy is not about religion, but about accessing the Power that surrounds us, the power of Love. I am an active, engaging therapist with a sense of humor, it’s good to laugh.

Many people show up to therapy believing that there's something wrong with them or that they are the problem. Let me assure you that you aren't "crazy." The symptoms you struggle with are just that, symptoms of a larger, more relational problem. Whether you're struggling with your mental health, connecting with your partner(s) or family members, or job related distress; we're here to help. The therapists at KCCD will always see you as a human rather than just a diagnosis. We understand that life (and our relationships) can feel overwhelming, and we're here to support you in overcoming any obstacle.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
