I help people creating rites of passage in their own lives: emerging from the family as a differentiated individual, the transition into parenthood, the beginning or ending of relationships, becoming a therapist.
Is your communication suffering? Think about it for a moment. Are you communicating well with others? With yourself? What happens when communication is: Misunderstood Misguided Missing? Successful relationships require effort, though they need not be difficult. Stress, anger, anxiety, and depression can affect your satisfaction. If you improve your communication with yourself and others, then you have a better chance at more satisfying relationships. And that is where I can help. I specialize in working with individuals, couples, and more than couples to improve communication and deepen their relationships.

I love seeing folks at a turning point in their lives, who want to heal painful beliefs or repeating relational patterns, to find direction and self-love. With modalities of Gestalt awareness, Jungian imaginal discovery, Existential inquiry, psychoeducation and caring exploration, we dive into what wants to be seen. I see clients recover from dysfunctional family systems, addiction, and codependency. We heal past wounds and build self-support for increased choicefulness. I reference 12-step models, having over 20 years experience with them. I respect recovering individuals who often have readiness to do deep therapeutic work.

Dysfunctional interaction styles are examined from 3 angles: differences in cultural backgrounds, character styles, and life/family histories.
We will take a deep look at troublesome symptoms like depression, anxiety, trauma, interpersonal conflicts, and chronic health issues. In order to make real changes to your life, we will define habitual coping patterns that are built into your mind and body, namely your unique defensive structure, and slowly uncover difficult past events and feelings that you buried to survive. These character aspects are now blocking your healthy self-expressions and authentic self. Eventually your growing self-awareness and the release of long-held emotions will take you to a new life phase.

Couples', family, and group therapy offered.
Everyone functions uniquely, at times experiencing depression, anxiety, insecurities, doubt, and grief. I help people around these issues, as well as introversion, high-functioning Asperger's, bipolar, OCD, and social awkwardness...relationship issues, self-esteem, living with narcissists, identity. We can decide how to deal with life's changes, challenges, and transitions. We will focus compassionately on emotions, thoughts, behaviors, and relationships to examine patterns and slowly change them. Our ability to observe and use our will to change are the most powerful tools we possess to bring about changes we desire.

In these uncertain times I am committed to provide warm, strong, calming help. I offer in person session for vaccinated clients as well as telehealth, video or phone. My potential client is looking for support around issues of family neglect in childhood, alcohol or drug abuse, anxiety, depression, communication, and boundary setting in relationships--whether family, romantic, friendships or at work. Are you in a relationship that is bringing you down? Do you feel stuck and don’t know what to do for the best? Perhaps you’re not currently in a relationship, but you want to be. You may have a history of dysfunctional relationships and are ready to break the pattern. My role is to help you to uncover potential reasons for struggles and breakdowns in relationships. It can be tough to look so closely at our experiences and the associated feelings. At the same time, it can be one of the most beneficial things that we can do for ourselves.

My clients have survived traumas big and small and have had experiences that no one should have. Now, they find themselves drained of the strengths they once drew from. Whether you are struggling with impostor syndrome, stuck in a life situation that you can't seem to get out of, or are confused or overwhelmed about the depth of your grief, you sense that you are ready to sit, heal, and move forward. While many around you know you as the strong one, this time, you don't think you can. You want a therapist who gets you, your struggle, and your resilience. You want healing on your own terms and I can fully facilitate that.

You are human. And if you are reading this you are somewhere in the middle of living out a great story - your life. Epics like these have been written for thousands of years. We find ourselves, now, existing in a long line of dramas, tragedies, romances, and comedies. But writing our own stories can be, and most often is, difficult. We can get stuck in chapters that seem to have no endings, desperately wanting to turn the page, but feeling, somehow, stuck and trapped. In our modern age, symptoms become characters that speak to us. Depression, Anger, Despair, and Anxiety, to name a few, start to fill our story.

My approach to psychotherapy is holistic. I not only treat the "tip of the iceberg" problems, but also address the deeper, "bottom of the ocean," issues. I treat the whole person and honor the mind-body-spirit connections, taking into account the client's cultural, religious and ethnic background, ancestry, race and immigration history. I recognize the complexity of each person's history and circumstances and employ a wide variety of techniques to guide my clients in their self-discovery.

Therapy is your journey. If you invite me to walk along beside you, I will offer to you my best critical thinking, understanding, compassion and theoretical knowledge based on 20 years of working in this field. I am adept at pointing out signposts, synchronicities, other paths and directions that you may not have noticed along the way. Sometimes we need another set of eyes to tell us when we are just about to step in something gooey and stinky. And other times we need help getting it off the bottoms of our shoes so that we can continue onward.

If you're feeling anxious about the state of things these days and would like to talk, I am meeting with people remotely via phone and video. Therapy is a conversation in which you can discuss the most complex and sensitive subjects. Together we reach an understanding of what you're experiencing by sorting through your thoughts and feelings.

Do you have a hard time speaking up and expressing yourself? When you anticipate a conflict or someone who may have a differing opinion than you, do you tend to keep quiet to maintain the peace? The world sees you as gentle and kind. You are capable, accountable, and have achieved a lot. But There is more fire in you that wants to come out and make things happen. I can help you access the other parts of you that the world doesn’t get to see, the parts that you don’t acknowledge in you but can see and admire in others. Once these parts are allowed to come out, they can help you navigate life with less doubt, more ease, and clarity.

I believe we heal through relationships. They can positively rewire our brains and facilitate growth. In our sessions, we will enter into a therapeutic relationship through conversation. Together we will create a safe space and explore the things that are troubling you. We will learn more about your thoughts, your feelings, and your beliefs. We will examine how those things influence your behaviors. The more you know, the more control you have in the way you move through life. The key to transformational change is awareness. Our focus will be on the present-what is happening now, and how you want to be.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
