I work with individuals, family, couples, and work with you to realize how powerful and resourceful you are.
Are you struggling in your relationships with others, not getting what you want from them, feeling overwhelmed, depressed, anxious, and powerless to feeling better? I have the tools you need to resolve your problems. Though the thought of therapy can feel scary, I will work with you in a non-judgmental, all accepting, and non-assuming approach. We will work together in a collaborative partnership that clearly identifies what you need and how to get those needs met.

Using a strength-based approach, seminary degree and my biology degree, I hope to assist you to discover truth about yourself and uncover "secrets" that may hold you (or a loved-one) back from being your very best--no matter what your family situation (or sexuality) may be.
I'm looking forward to meeting you to discover how we can work together to discover ways to regain your balance in life! I have over thirty-five years of experience working with children and families as a Youth Minister, the last twelve years have been in community mental health. I am now trained and licensed to work with children as young as three and adults as old as ninety-two. Often using CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), we focus on thinking patterns and how they affect behavior. My favorite part is mindfulness training and spirituality, discovering YOUR life purpose.

This will allow you to focus on the things that matter most: your job, your family, and goals you thought unattainable due to the pain you have felt.
Men don’t like to talk about anxiety. It can make you feel out of control. Think of the times you want to do something meaningful for yourself but cannot because of the rush of overwhelm you feel. Something has to change. I help men who struggle with anxiety manage their thoughts and feelings so they can do what they want, instead of having their anxiety tell them what they can and cannot do.

I worked for Miami University's Student Counseling Center and contracted with Central Clinic's Child and Family Treatment Center.
We all have a story. It is a story we have been telling our whole lives. We add to this story with each new encounter and context. Sometimes our stories get warped by any number of life factors, and we can lose our sense of self. I see therapy as an opportunity to unravel and examine the story of you, to get to the “why” of you.

Each individual has their own story outside of their challenges and struggles. We are taught so much if we just slow down and experience someone else's worldview. Children especially, need someone to accept them as they are and help them flourish socially and emotionally. This is the core of my practice; to celebrate each unique individual and help them become better versions of themselves. While I am most passionate about helping young children, I also have experience working with anxiety, depression, PTSD, behavioral and/or emotional concerns, social skills development, attention difficulties, grief and loss, children and families

As a counselor, my goal is to establish a warm and supportive relationship, free of judgment, and full of unconditional positive regard. By doing this, I take time to empathize with clients through their own eyes and collectively we develop an alliance and work towards goals as a team. I prefer to meet with the client first and then correspond the best theoretical orientation to the individual, couple, or situation. I believe that successful treatment needs to be personalized and that treatment needs to include and the environmental elements that are impacting the individual as well.

Do you feel stuck? The reality is that life is hard, and we all struggle at times. Usually, we are able to manage on our own. But there are other times when life becomes overwhelming, and we find it hard to move forward. This can lead to depression, anxiety, and unhealthy coping habits. It can also have a negative impact on our relationships with others... often those who we care about the most.

Life is a journey full of unexpected twists and turns that can leave us feeling overwhelmed, confused, stressed, anxious, angry and hurt. It happens. Sometimes when we are faced with an unexpected event or tragedy or we just feel like we "aren't ourselves "and we just aren't sure who to talk to or what to do, therapy can help. I would like to be there to help you through the twists and turns.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
