I believe that everyone can benefit from therapy, whether it is for personal growth, social and family relationships, work issues, or addressing a specific challenge.
I have been honored to work with families, young children, and adults for nearly ten years. In my practice I lean on the tenets of trauma-informed practices, the neuroscience of connection, and attachment research. As a result of our work together, I have witnessed clients’ immense personal growth, improvements in social and family relationships, decreases in work issues, and a healthy integration of tools learned in therapy. I believe that through our work together, we can unearth the keys to you having more ease in your day-to-day and shift away from unhelpful patterns of thoughts and actions.

Jennifer Paget, MS, will partner with you to develop parenting practices that fit both your child's abilities and the needs of your family.
Every day is filled with parenting battles that leave you exhausted and guilt-ridden, having lost your temper too many times. You ache for a more peaceful home and a loving relationship with your child or teen, but you don’t know how to get there. General advice and tips sound good on paper but they are not working with your child, and you don’t know why. Your energy and resilience are taking a serious hit. Worst of all, you are afraid that your child will be emotionally harmed by all the turmoil that goes on from day to day.

I work with children, adolescents, and adults who are struggling with learning challenges, ADHD, stressful family dynamics, depression, and anxiety. For many children and adolescents, there are struggles with behavioral and emotional regulation that are making life difficult for them and their families. Through dialogue and/or play, we develop innovative and creative strategies to help with self-regulation. For adult clients, through developing understanding of ADHD, depression and/or anxiety, I help clients make changes in their thoughts, feelings, and actions that lead to alleviation and reduction of symptoms.

We come to therapy to change our lives which can only be done by changing ourselves. I believe the most effective changes occur when we can experience and examine our behavior in relation to others. In individual therapy you and I will not only identify and try to understnad how your life experiences have shaped your behavior, but how you and I experience that behavior in our relationship. When I work with couples, I focus on your dynamics of intimacy, power imbalances, money, sexuality, and the impact of family and friends on your couple.

I offer short term, brief therapy to support individuals, couples and families in moving forward in some way. Brief therapy typically focuses on solutions rather than problems. In the treatment of children and adolescents I do my best to have an immediate, positive impact on children's symptoms and to make the improvement long-lasting for the family as well as the child.
I believe our most troubling attitudes and behavior are meant to protect us from real emotional threats or to help us achieve certain experiences that are vital to our growth. I help clients understand their experiences in the world in terms of these important functions. In dialogue with me clients come to recognize how their most important relationships have shaped the way they think, feel, and act in both desirable and undesirable ways. I strive to help clients discern their authentic needs, desires, and values so they can assert them with conviction in their daily lives.

You may be: a teenager confronting challenges such as anxiety, depression, peer comparison, gender identity or sexual orientation; a family that needs support with general discord, parenting a child who is neurodiverse or LGBTQIA; or a woman feeling stuck or lost, managing anxiety or depression post-college, or during pregnancy, postpartum or infertility.
If you’re considering therapy, you may be in a time of stress or transition. My goal is to ease your access to psychotherapy by providing you or your family with confidential online therapy, from the comfort of your own home. While I work with clients of all ages in any stage of life, my specialties include teen and family LGBTQIA issues, prenatal/postpartum challenges, parenting children with special needs and working with women who feel “stuck.”

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
