I have been in private practice for 43 years. I am a Board Certified Diplomate Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I have two years of post graduate training in Family and Couples Therapy and six years of study in Sex Therapy. I completed a five month Intensive Trauma Certification Program. I try to create a safe non judgmental environment so that you can talk about your concerns. Psychotherapy allows you time to think about your life, where you are, and where you would like to be. I am a interactive and relational psychotherapist. I see young adults and adults for individual and couples psychotherapy.

With extensive experience facilitating individual, family, and group therapy with adolescents and adults in multiple settings, I have developed a unique passion for working with a wide variety of populations and age-groups.
Many of us don't know where to begin at the moment we realize we need help or simply become interested in exploring our lives and relationships. We may hear about many different treatment modalities (CBT, DBT, EMDR, etc.) and feel confused about what "type" of therapist we should meet with. I simplify all of this by being straight-forward, down-to-earth, and adept at helping you use the best and most effective components of every modality available. Within our first meeting you will have a better understanding of yourself and what you want to manifest in your life.

I specialize in working with adolescents and young adults facing a disruption within their lives, such as a serious illness or crisis, as well as parents, family members and caregivers who are affected by what their loved one is forced to endure.
Life is unexpected and, at any moment, we can be derailed from our path and forced to face unbelievable challenges. The stress and frustration that can accompany a traumatic situation can be overwhelming, terrifying, and exhausting. I offer a safe space filled with compassion, empathy and encouragement where I work with clients on coping strategies, self-care and reducing anxiety and depression. I focus on a strengths-based approach, helping clients examine both their inner and outer resources and supports in the face of adversity and trauma, emphasizing a client’s own resilience, bravery and power.

I am a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner committed to mental health treatment promotion and prevention. With a psychodynamic foundation, I integrate Internal family systems(IFS) and attachment theories to my treatment approach. This approach is successful with clients seeking help with adulting, relationships, families, and parenting as well as individual therapy. As an open and affirming Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner I've learned that the integration of these talk modalities are helpful for navigating life processes. Talk therapy undergirds the treatment relationship and when necessary may be complemented with medication management.

My ideal client presents depressive symptoms related to trauma & grief. They express that they want to process unresolved childhood issues. They express that the issues have prevented close relationships with their adult children. They want forgiveness and help in creating better ties. The goal may be to explore & resolve issues related to traumatic events and improve overall mood. Interventions may include sharing details of the event and how it has affected their relationships, using positive self-talk, developing positive coping skills, and identifying effective strategies to communicate thoughts and feelings.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
