I work with children, adolescents, families, adults and seniors through individual, family, couples and marital counseling. I work with clients who have been abused, traumatized, neglected and are struggling and attempting to cope with issues of depression, anxiety, ADHD, separation anxiety, anger management, co-dependence, adolescence, preparing and moving to college, family stressors and dynamics, parenting, divorce, co-parenting, school issues, employment issues, job loss, retirement, grief, and alienation.

I am a licensed Mental Health Counselor. I'm a trained Cognitive Behavioral Therapist; but I use a variety of approaches depending on my client's needs. I have been in private practice for 9 years. Prior to private practice I worked at Family Service League in Bayshore with all populations. I also worked at Stony Brook University Hospital on the Child Psychiatry Unit working with children from 4-13 years old. I currently work at Stony Brook University and had previously worked at The Juilliard School.

The teenage years can be stressful especially in light of the social media and peer pressure. The pandemic is complicating socialization and stunting personal development. I am here to support adolescents and their families through this difficult stage of development, especially during the uncertain times that COVID brought. Sarah has worked with individuals with Anxiety, Depression, Adjustment Disorder, ADHD and Oppositional Defiant Disorder. Sarah has experience working with youth who have challenges with self-esteem, communication, school avoidance, and positive social interaction.

My experience as a clinical social worker ranges from working as a clinician on an inpatient psychiatric unit, providing in-home behavioral services, implementing counseling at a public high school and providing therapy and behavioral management at an intensive day treatment program.

With over 10 years of experience in building positive, healing and compassionate relationships with others in an outpatient psychiatric clinic setting, I am eager to bring my skills into private practice. I am well-versed in different treatment modalities including DBT, CBT, Trauma-informed practice and Solution-Focused therapies.

I help individuals who have experienced trauma reclaim their lives. Trauma can take many forms whether it be: witnessing/experiencing domestic violence, sexual abuse, physical abuse, emotional abuse, community violence or tragic loss of a loved one- to name a few. For many, the end result is flashbacks, nightmares, dissociation, irritability, low-self-esteem and feeling disconnected from yourself and those around you. My clients have seen and been through some serious stuff. Despite being determined, caring and hard-working, they feel like they cannot get back to life before what happened- well happened.
