I primarily work with young adults & professionals to help resolve issues in relationships, work through evolving dynamics with family, & cultivate a sense of belonging that withstands the pressure of a productivity-oriented culture.
Applications for South Asian Men's Group - more info under "Gallery." I am a Bangladeshi-American psychotherapist trained at Smith College, and my primary goal in therapy is to help you live a life that deeply aligns with your truest self. Having lived in both Bangladesh and the US, I know firsthand the struggle of feeling as if we are “too much” or “too little” of the identity we are often expected to embody. As a queer woman of color who grew up in predominantly homogeneous spaces, I strongly believe in the importance of not just allowing, but encouraging and celebrating the full expression of our nuanced and glorious selves.

I have worked with college students, individuals struggling with anxiety, depression, ADHD, relationship issues, family dynamics, developmental trauma, school trauma and chronic illness.

Originally from Taiwan, my experiences with multicultural issues and social justice activism serve as a foundational lens in my work. If you are struggling with issues related to self-worth, intimacy, vulnerability, social interactions, family, romantic relationships, and life transitions, I am here to help.
I am a University of Pennsylvania trained, millennial, Indian-American, psychotherapist who utilizes emotion-focused methods to help you generate a stronger sense of self. My main goals in therapy are to help you feel less alone with your emotions and to help you feel more understood in your experience as a POC in the United States. As a child of immigrants, I can relate to the unique challenge of straddling two very different cultures and trying to fit in with both. Oftentimes, I will draw from my personal experience of navigating similar cultural, generational, and racial clashes to better support you.

Our therapists will help you to manage your anxiety, depression, relationship and family issues.
You have appeared ok, but deep inside stressed for quite a while. You have thought about therapy, but either mental health is too much a topic to face, or you find it too hard to find a therapist who can really understand your culture and speak your language. So you decided to suffer silently. You searched Dr. Google many times too, and worried that your situation could get much worse if you don't find the right therapist to help you. Wait no more. Our psychotherapists are here to help.

I work with adults with issues related to anxiety, depression, loss and grief, difficult family dynamics/roles, and racial and cultural identity.
There are times we find ourselves struggling and straying further away from the life we want. We’re juggling daily demands, roles, and relationships, while just trying to keep it together. We begin to recognize that old ways of coping aren’t working anymore. Although painful and uncomfortable, this awareness is where growth and healing begins. I offer a safe and non-judgmental space for you to freely explore and be curious about what has brought you here. We will work on deepening awareness, building skills, and making meaningful change that aligns with your values and goals - a therapy that enlightens and empowers.

I trained as a postdoctoral fellow at Yale University; worked at Rutgers University and Bellevue Hospital; and work with highly driven professionals from various industries (art, sports, tech, media, medicine, finance) in fostering healthy relationships, resolving family/multicultural issues, and managing performance and social anxiety, OCD, and depression.
I specialize in helping people through loss, traumatic events, and life transitions. You may be stuck, feel out of control, or simply want a different life. Psychotherapy can be helpful in redefining how you relate to others and yourself, and in identifying your needs and nurturing these areas. I can introduce research-supported strategies for coping with difficult emotions, stress, or physical pain when a practical solution is appropriate. An ideal patient would also value an emotion-based and interpersonal approach to treatment; few things can predict the success of treatment like the strong bond between your therapist and you.

I am a NY licensed social worker, who completed my education in Boston. I speak both English and Cantonese. As someone who grew up in a NYC traditional immigrant family, hard work was emphasized and taught. These experiences helped me develop a unique bicultural perspective and approach to help people from multiple cultures, different upbringings, or beliefs. I believe it is very important to have a person to talk to and seek guidance from who understands one’s culture and speaks one's language for our everyday conflicts, struggles, or stresses within work, family, education, and community.

My approach is grounded in my eclectic training with a combination of psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioral and family therapy.
My aim as a psychotherapist is to help individuals and couples stop repeating destructive and self-defeating patterns of behavior. I do so by helping people gain deeper understanding of their issues and the complex factors that underlie such patterns. We humans cling to familiar way of coping, even if we know that our behavior is no longer serving us, or is even hurting us. Understanding why we do what we do in the present will not only help us understand ourselves but will also help us let go of the familiar but dysfunctional way of coping with life events.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
