I am a clinical instructor in the Department of Psychiatry, New York University Medical Center and was on the teaching faculty of the Ackerman Institute for Family Therapy for 25 years.
My ideal clients -- and I have many --are individuals or people in various relationships who feel they are not achieving their maximum potential -- in life, career or relationships. . If I can help solve people or couples solve problems or find more satisfaction I have succeeded, and I often do

Through this approach, I hope to help you identify and achieve your goals in the here and now, while still focusing on past family history, childhood experiences, attachment style, and relationship patterns.
I believe one of the most important parts of the therapeutic relationship is to create a safe, objective, and supportive space for the client. Whether this be your first time in therapy, or your 100th, I seek to help create that space in order for you to process difficult emotions and examine coping mechanisms that may no longer be serving you. Through our work together, I aim to help you create a life full of meaning, while supporting however you define that. I operate from an integrated approach which combines holistic evidence-based practices combined with psychotherapeutic techniques.

I pull from various modalities, such as psychodynamic and internal family systems.
My clients are deep thinkers and deep feelers. They are often burdened by injustice at large and overwhelmed by their inner world of emotion. If you’ve ever been told that you “overthink” things or you’re “too sensitive,” I want to offer you support and encouragement. There’s nothing wrong with being empathic and attuned to the suffering around you. It may be challenging, but it is a strength.

Some couples come committed to having their relationship thrive, others come with the intention of working out a divorce that is collaborative and respectful and includes a co-parenting plan that works for the whole family.
Volatile couples are often passionate couples. "We love each other and have a good relationship, why we do end up in the same hurtful arguments?" The passion in your relationship is energizing but can also turn into fights accompanied by extreme anger. Often this results in one person withdrawing and both left feeling hurt and misunderstood. I help couples turn volatility into versatility. Volatility is explosive energy; versatility means having choices and tools to use at the right moment while keeping healthy passion alive. My couples are people who have strong relationships but need help breaking patterns that lead them down a rabbit hole.

Reaching out for support is the first step in the right direction to a better life. I believe that everyone has the potential to overcome their challenges and it is my commitment to support this journey using an approach based on acceptance, active listening, and coping skills. I have been working in family settings for several years as a Psychologist in Italy. Since I moved to New York I started my career as a School Psychologist in the only Italian-bilingual School in New York, helping adults and adolescents find new strategies and considering different points of views when dealing with transitions, familiar issues, and anxiety.

I provide individual, couples, family, and group therapy.
Life can be difficult at times. People could feel "dissatisfied with life," or "unfulfilled," despite the efforts. Collaborating with a skilled psychotherapist could help a person or a couple identify and break the maladaptive patterns, make positive changes, and experience more happiness and freedom. I am a bilingual (Chinese & English) psychologist with over 19 years of training and experience. I adopt an integrative style, blending elements of Psychodynamic, Interpersonal, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) through the lens of attachment and culture.

My approach begins with a focus on the strengths of the couple, family, or individual.
Disappointment, failure, loss, frustration, anger and sadness are unavoidable aspects of human existence. The past cannot be rewritten. But the way in which we choose to come to terms with the past - as either members of a familial unit, a couple, or an individual - will go a long way towards determining our happiness in the present. I bring a warm, compassionate, non-judgmental approach to my work that arises out of my deeply held conviction that the most important determinant of therapeutic success will be the therapeutic alliance between patient and therapist.

I draw from a psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioral, family systems, and emotion-focused framework, but overall value the therapeutic relationship, characterized by non-judgment and genuineness, as a source of healing.
I believe that everyone should have the opportunity to engage in self-reflection at some moment in their lives, whether they are transitioning through a phase or struggling with the daily stressors of everyday life that impact well-being. I envision therapy as a collaborative process between therapist and client in which individuals, through guidance and introspection, can reach the best versions of themselves and develop meaningful relationships, self-fulfillment, and mastery over past and present challenges. I hold a multicultural lens with all clients I encounter and recognize the impact of race, ethnicity, and social context.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
