Hello there! My name is Melissa (or you can call me Mel!) and in my therapeutic work, I strive to create a safe, empathic, warm, non-judgmental, and genuine environment for all my clients. I come from a lens of self-compassion, trauma-focused, sex-positive, anti-racist, LGBTQIA + affirming, and systems perspective.

My philosophy in working with individual, couples and families is to provide a safe environment that enable individuals feel free to express their emotions, feelings and work at solutions, conflicts stress and life changes. I work from a strengths perspective and family systems theory. I have experience with ages 10 to 90. These theories guide me in individual and family sessions with my clients. I have a real passion for family therapy and often feel energized by working with multiple family members at once. I work with clients who are struggling with anxiety, depression, personality and mood disorders, marital difficulties, and grief and loss issues. I am invested in working with clients interested in learning skills to manage issues presented and invested in cultivating change in behaviors.

I have 6 years of experience in community mental health, during which I worked with people who had severe and persistent mental illness. I have been a counselor for almost 19 years. I have worked in the addiction field and with couples and families helping them to resolve issues between couples and family members. I also have worked with people who have co-dependency issues, anxiety issues, post traumatic stress disorder, and depression. I am moved into my own private practice in June 2015. I am currently a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and a Chemical Dependency Proffessional, in Washington State and now am licensed in Kansas and have moved my practice to Kansas, but can continue to work with people in Washington State online.
