As a person-centered counselor, I wholeheartedly believe that we can come back from anything and regain a sense of control. I oftentimes utilize this approach with my clients to remind them that they can create the life that they wish to have and the change they wish to see. I am currently accepting new clients via in office or statewide Telehealth.

I believe that everyone deserves an environment where they feel comfortable enough to discuss their beliefs and feelings without judgment. I apply several theoretical orientations such as, but not limited to Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Family Systems Theory in my practice to best meet my clients' individual needs. I work on building a strong therapeutic relationship using empathy and non-judgmental, goal-oriented approaches which assist client's treatment outcome.

Thank you for taking the time to view my profile! I've been a psychotherapist for 15 years after 3 years assisting in published psychological research. My focus is on adult patients with trauma, family systems, anxiety, depression, addictions, personality disorders and/or emotional dysregulation. More recently in my career, I focus on emotional abuse, domestic abuse, dysfunctional family dynamics and recovery for both clients and other professionals. It is my mission to provide quality care with the respect and empathy everyone deserves!

Within the therapeutic environment, I strive to provide a welcoming and open-minded space where anyone can come to process the varying obstacles that life throws at you. I connect and utilize various theory's listed below, but I primarily come from a person-centered approach, and encourage communication and finding out together what works best for you within your own life. I utilize a variety of interventions from mindfulness-based practices, internal family systems therapy, and CBT to work through the challenges that life may pose.

Dr. Ami Owen received her undergraduate degree in Social Science and a minor in Psychology. She received her Master’s in General Family Therapy with an advanced emphasis on families and trauma. Dr. Owen also received a Doctorate in Counseling and is a Clinically Certified Trauma Professional. She is licensed in ID, WA, AZ, TX, FL, CA, UT and is a nationally approved supervisor through the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapists (AAMFT). She takes delight in mentoring therapists on the complexities of family systems and consults with providers across the country to improve systems approaches.
