Your brain's being a menace and you want that to change. My goal is to help you navigate that change, recognize the difference between uncomfortable and unhealthy, and create an experience, and a life, that you want to participate in. If you've been in and out of therapy for a long time and struggled to find a fit or feel like real change was happening, you're in my wheelhouse. If you're neurodivergent, neurospicy, got the AuDHD two-for-one special, or are just really, really traumatized (or all of the above!), you're part of the group I work with best.

We all deserve to feel at home and safe in our bodies and minds, and it’s my passion to help you find this place. If you're not feeling at home with yourself right now, the question is not "what's wrong with me?", but rather, "what happened to me?". There is a reason you're struggling the way you are, and we'll curiously and compassionately look for these answers together, while developing ways for you to tend to your body and mind. It's not always an easy journey, but it's the most important one.

I provide psychotherapy to all age clients including children (5+), family, and elderly. I speak Cantonese and Taishanese fluently. Image, you have your freedom and trust yourself to be who you want to be and live the life that you want to live. You are trapped, stuck, and carry heavy invisible responsibilities from your background, culture, tradition, and expectations from your society. You feel like you cannot breathe, keep your head above water. That’s enough! It’s time to change, it’s time to live life with the happiness that you deserve.

I aim to create a sanctuary of support for you to come into connection with yourself. By learning to listen deeply to your body, you help create the conditions to recalibrate your nervous system, which can open up fresh perspectives. From this new vantage point, an embodied shift toward self-compassion and awareness is possible, making room for more vitality, intimacy, and enjoyment. You will have the opportunity develop new tools to stay grounded in the face of life’s stressors, and tend to areas of discomfort, be them physical or emotional.

You're on-edge and having trouble concentrating. You feel restless and unable to stop overthinking. Maybe you're wanting to isolate to protect your friends and family from your sadness and anger. It's hard to continue pretending that everything is fine when you are feeling so desperate inside. You want to feel heard, seen, and understood. You would love to figure out your anxiety or depression—where it might be coming from and how to make it stop (or at least not be so intense).

Life gets us stuck in ruts and routines. Although routine is a good foundation, its function is to serve a life worth living, not to be served. Breaking out of patterns that are diminishing and shrinking your life is something that folks often need help with. The skills that brought you to this place in life, although useful, may not be the skills you need to transition to the challenges in front of you now. I can help you with that.

As your therapist, we will begin to examine various cultural and familial conditions, which have contributed to current issues and to begin the journey to healing. As I practice the art of therapy, my approach is ever-evolving and dynamic. I am passionate about psychological development, healing, and growth and am regularly studying new research on brain development and mindfulness techniques to support healing. I believe that what has happened to us in our lives can be healed in relationships and the power of the therapeutic relationship can be a powerful relationship to heal those wounds.

So many people struggle to find happiness and balance in their lives and relationships. I can help you identify and remove the blocks to your happiness, whether they be inside of you (your thoughts, expectations and anxieties) or outside (toxic relationships, cultural barriers, etc.). Not Currently Accepting New Clients - Therapy can be a space for us to engage with not only our immediate problems, but what inevitably lies beneath. I think of it as a space for mutual trust and willingness to show up in service of understanding ourselves. It can be in some ways not the easy path as our tendencies to avoid, control or pursue are deeply part of us. When we make the choice to explore an alternative approach to life as we know it, opportunity can show itself.

My clients come from a variety of experiences including anxious feelings, dark periods of life, intrusive thoughts, and traumatic exposure, to those people who are transitioning in life or working through grief and sorrow. I work with people who have had years of counseling but don't seem to be getting any better and keep going through repetitive cycles. The main factor that connects them all is the desire to heal. There is no need to be aggressive with healing and having to force ourselves to “get over” trauma, depression, anxiety, grief, etc. There is another avenue which encompasses compassion for ourselves and for others.

The human experience presents opportunities, obstacles and constant change. Oftentimes, the challenges we face feel overwhelming and prevent us from seeing the possibility for growth, while the pace of living interferes with our ability to stay focused on the present moment where creative possibility abides. The distractions we all use to keep us from pain do not serve us anymore, but we are left wondering how to live without them. Navigating challenge and finding new possibility are sometimes difficult to accomplish on our own.

My primary goal is helping people find freedom from the burdens and struggles that have been holding them captive and helping to point them toward a healthier, happier life. I strongly believe that counseling should not be an intimidating, unpleasant experience but instead a life-giving, uplifting experience with some laughs along the way. As such, I try to blend humor into the sessions and make the counseling relationship as natural as possible. I specialize with adults and teens, with a primary focus on addiction, depression, anxiety, and spiritual issues.

Healing and growth can take place when we can truly be present with the challenges in our life. To heal and move beyond our suffering we must undertake an honest process of self-examination. Baby steps may be required. Everyone has the key to their own healing somewhere within, for within all of us there is a knowing and a creativity that has the answers to our struggles. It is my job to be a compassionate safe support assisting you in finding your own answers and joining you on your journey to find the solutions that are within you. I work at King Health Associates under the guidance of a Clinical Supervisor.

The search for a therapeutic relationship founded on trust, compassion and understanding driven by your needs, goals and dreams is one of the most important decisions you will make. It takes a tremendous amount of courage and strength, built on the foundation of hope to begin the journey of finding ourselves. As both a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Substance Use Disorder Professional I believe we all have a unique story to share with the world. Our knowledge of ourselves; spiritually, mentally and physically drives our choices and is the catalyst for change in that narrative.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in Bellingham?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
