For individuals, it might mean reflecting on how dynamics they learned earlier in life impact current connections with friends, family, and partners.
Do you often find yourself worrying about the important relationships in your life? Maybe you’re wondering what happened to the sense of connection you once felt with your partner? Or perhaps you’re stuck in a painful pattern with someone you care deeply about, but you can’t figure out how to get unstuck? For many of us, relationships are central to our life, and we crave deep and meaningful connections. And, it makes perfect sense to feel distressed when we are disconnected from loved ones, when we are in a period of difficult transition, or when events and concerns from the past impact our current relationships.

By attending to your relationship dynamics, family messages, and your identity and relationship goals, we will help you access your power and find a sense of safety and calmness.
Are you ready to be more vulnerable but aren’t sure where to start? Have you found yourself struggling to share honestly with those around you? Or maybe you’ve tried sharing more of yourself with others, but you aren’t sure where you belong or if others will accept you? Our families can have a big impact on how we show up in our adult relationships. Cultural messages often impact how safe we feel to be fully ourselves. Shame and guilt can hold us back from experiencing intimacy and connection with ourselves and others. Together we will help you heal from any past wounds so you can feel more aligned in the present.

Welcome! My name is Victoria Williams and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor. I work with individuals and family in areas such as anxiety, anger management, behavioral issues, coping skills, and depression, amongst others. I work well with adolescents in that I listen to them and help them gain insight to understanding how their behaviors play a major role in their future. I use the cognitive behavioral therapy approach as I believe thoughts are directly tied to behaviors. Once we are able to identify irrational thoughts, we can start to learn more positive functional behaviors to respond to uncomfortable situations.

I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, Professional Counselor, and Chemical Dependency Counselor, as well as a former Speech Language Pathologist with more than 8 years of clinical practice.
Relationships and human connections are very important to most people. Communication and interaction with others is not always as easy as you and I wish. Life circumstances and our personalities influence the way we all cope with life and relationships. If your life is not what you want it to be today, you are not flawed or need 'to be fixed' in some way, but you can learn to understand yourself better and change perspectives to create a happier life, one more suited for you.

In my spare time, I enjoy macrame, gardening, belly dancing, working with and training dogs, birdwatching, Reiki, spending time with friends and family, listening to metaphysical podcasts, expanding intuitive abilities, and experiencing new adventures/cultures.
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor, Registered Play Therapist, Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy trained, Reiki certified, and Animal Assisted Play Therapist, Level l, who has been working with children and families for 20+ years. As a Registered Play Therapist, I help children express themselves through play. Children (13 and under) typically do not have the cognitive skills to verbally express themselves. Play therapy gives them the tools to understand and process their world. I have experience with LGBTQ+ clients and working with members of this community is another passion of mine.

I see clients with a range of psychological issues, such as anxiety, depression, stress, anger, deconstructing painful religious history or background. Most of my clients are adults ranging from 20 to 80+. I am a Clinical Psychologist with advanced training in psychopharmacology or psychiatric medication management. This allows me to practice psychotherapy and also evaluate, educate and suggest medications that may be helpful in your treatment. If medication is appropriate most of my clients do not see a psychiatrist, they usually return to their family physician for their medication needs. Many take less medication over time.

Are you having trouble with the challenges of growing up? If so, I can help you find your way. As a seasoned clinical psychologist and psychoanalyst, I will help you understand conflicts, fears, and worries that interfere with relationships, work, school, and other activities in life. You may then regain freedom to be more creative and more open to possibilities and opportunities. With commitment to treatment comes hope!

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
