I have developed effective approaches for marital, family, parent child and personal problems that happen in daily living.
It takes courage to engage in professional counseling and when you do it is important that there is a match with your counselor and the modality used. As a counselor I serve people using mindfulness, meditation, whole person approaches. I also incorporate faith based approaches. I work with counselee's that struggle with anxiety, depression, trauma related issues and a variety of other emotional disturbances. I will help you identify the core issues that resulted in your emotional or personal problems and immediately help to develop strategies to resolve these issues.

I am a Marriage and Family Therapist who understands the difficulty in making the decision to start your therapeutic journey. You're doing great by taking your first step and choosing to see a therapist! As a therapist I believe in creating a safe space where my clients feel like they can learn more about themselves and reach their personal goals. It's also okay if you don't know what those goals look like. Vulnerability is a strength and I like to work from a strength-based approach. I have experience working with families, couples, individuals and children. I am passionate about my work and look forward to learning more about you.

Are you feeling sad, anxious, lonely or stressed out? Are you having relationship problems? Do you think that your partner is not responsive to your needs? Are you tired of feeling this way? It seems that the time has come to try something new and seek professional help. You have probably tried working these problems out by yourself, hoping things will change. Maybe you have spoken with friends and family, but you still feel stuck.

I currently offer individual, small group, and family therapy sessions, in addition to parent counseling and training related to child behavioral challenges.
Talking to someone about a problem can be a very difficult thing to do, especially when that someone is new. Thus, my goal as a clinician is to foster a relationship that will allow you to be comfortable, develop clear objectives, and ultimately address root problems that are causing negative life experiences. Since past and/or current behaviors can serve as major drivers for maladaptive functioning, my theoretical approach emphasizes cognitive-behavioral, psychodynamic, and systems theory techniques depending on the presenting problem.

You're ready for help from someone who can understand, hear what you're going through, and focus on your goals. It's important to express yourself to an excellent listener as well as receive trained and professional input. It's meaningful to have a support system to provide active guidance yet also believe in your inherent capabilities and potential. As a therapist with clinical and life experience, who believes everyone has their own strengths, I work collaboratively with clients. I utilize a variety of therapeutic approaches to help clients deal with feeling down, depressed, anxious and overwhelmed.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
