Related conditions include depression, anxiety, physical pain, relationship difficulties, addictions and cognitive disorders. As a result of auto and occupational injuries, many patients/clients suffer Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and Traumatic Brain Injuries; and they can greatly benefit from my individual and group psychotherapy. I am a Clinical and Forensic Psychologist so some of my work involves cases in litigation including evaluations, testimony and expert witness services.

With a degree that emphasizes couples and family counseling, I can work with individuals in any stage of their life.
As I like to tell my clients, anyone at any stage of their lives can benefit from therapy. Maybe you're experiencing anxiety, depression, or life stress, etc. Therapy helps by having someone to talk with, process the stress, and formulate a treatment plan that is tailored to your individual needs. Therapy works best as a collaborative process between the therapist and client, working together to achieve a positive and supportive workplace where mental and emotional health can thrive.

I have worked with survivors of sexual abuse, family and relational violence and generational trauma for my entire career.
I have a tremendous amount of respect for those who have the wisdom and courage to seek support through therapy and I work hard to help them learn to listen to themselves. I believe that my work as a therapist is to provide an experience of support, challenge, trust, and experiential knowledge that individuals may take forward in the world. I view the individuals who enter therapy from a multi-systemic lens, their strengths and challenges are influenced by their interaction with the world around them.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
